Single display box

I finally got the box made for my 1813 EK before I fondled all the details off.
I used ipe again. The bottom is mortised into the sides and the corners are simple miters as my skill at wood butchery doesn't extend to dovetails.

The glass slides into grooves and the top piece is grooved and epoxied on. I ground the first 1/16 in. of the glass rough for a better grip. The insert is archival foam core with an old velvet covering.

There's space behind the insert for silica gel for moisture control and activated charcoal to absorb corrosive gases. It can be set upright or hung on a wall. The tight fitting foam core allows a press fit to hold the cross in place.

or the insert can be reversed and it can be laid flat on a table or desk. I haven't put a finish on it yet, but intend to use urethane on the interior if I find it safe and Butcher's Wax on the outside.
