Kriegsmarine Medal bar, opinions please

Hi.

i recently purchased this Kriegsmarine Medal bar.

would welcome all opinions on it.

Would it be possible to identify the owner?

Hi Luftkrieg,

I do not think that this combination of medals is unique enough to allow for identification. Judging by the LS award the person was not of very high rank at the time. I think the Luftwaffe bar you posted in another thread stand a much better chance of identification, most likely a Oberst or General bar.

Also I am not sure why you assume this is a Kriegsmarine bar, unless you are maioking this assumption due to the blue backing.

due to the color of the backing i can see where it's very possible its a naval bar( the navy often used dark blue for the backing)
i'm guessing this was a brave lower level enlisted man( if he were a 'lifer' he'd have an imperial Long Service ,IMHO) who was recalled in the 30's. i wouldnt be very hopeful on ID'ing this bar ,but if any one could it'd be Rick Research on the GMIC

Yes the backing lead me to that assumption. The guy i bought it off was pretty sure it was Kriegsmarine also.

Here is my other Kriegsmarine bar with 2 Italian Awards. Again this has the Navy Blue backing. Let me know your opinions on this one also.

If this is a Kriegsmarine bar, how likely were they to be awarded the Africa Medal?

Dear Pierce,

I believe that the Kriegsmarine had some people stationed in Africa i.e. on the ground, but they were very few.

This is a very rare bar!

Hi Pierce,

I think this bar would be very difficult if not impossible to identify. You should post the question regarding the Kriegsmarine officer ranks list and see what years are available and also ask if orders/decorations were covered in those books. If there is a Kriegsmarine ranks list that covers awards, the unusual combo of the Italian order and the DAK medal might naoorw the field down but I do not believe enough to get an ID of the officer.
