WW1 German Gas Masks

I thought I would post some pictures of the main part of my WW1 German gas mask collection I've assembled over the past 8 years.

First, some early to mid war rubberized cloth masks and various carriers (1915-mid 1917):

The mask on the left is an early 2nd model Gasschutzmaske, a 1915 Bandmaske. The next one is a 1916 Rahmenmaske with cloth fabric draped over the filter along with two other Rahmenmasken with the upgraded (fabric covered springs) straps introduced in 1917.

The two cloth carrier bags (Segeltuchtaschen) shown housed the mask with can plus a spare filter in its own can in a small compartment next to it. Both sets here are complete with spare filters/cans; the left one is an M15 upgraded to the 1916 version, while the dark reddish-brown one on the left is a standard model introduced in 1916.

Here we have the leather GM17 Lederschutzmasken, filters and carriers. These were introduced in the spring or summer of 1917 and were meant to replace the Gummimasken, although both types were used until war's end.

The mask on the left is most likely an early version as it has no leather reinforcement around the eyepieces.

The carriers shown are the normally encountered field grey painted metal versions along with a camo painted can and a late war ersatz can made out of thin plywood (2nd row far right). A spare filter cloth pouch is also shown, front row right.

and the condition is excellent as well

thats a great collection, love all the types you have.
some i have not seen in color pics before.
love the camo can and the one with a named can also i used to have one with a named can also but sold it to pick up other stuff.
still have 6 cans and 3 masks though from ww1

Thanks very much for your replies. I'm happy to see there's interest in the stuff. Joe, post your masks and canisters if you like. I'd be very interested in seeing them. I'll post some more detailed shots of my masks tomorrow.

Hans, awesome examples. love the camo cannister. 2 things one aways thinks of when it comes to the Germans during the big wars. WWII- swasticka, WWI- gas masks. A WWI German in full gear wearing a mask looks totally sinister. something right out of a sci-fi horror movie. I dig the metal webs in the eye sockets. Glenn
