not the greatest collection..but it means a lot to me, sort of a tribute to all the German soldiers who fought in WW2...my grandpa didn't win all the awards..i just collect them and chose to display them that way..most of the stuff was given to me by family of deceased vets(one or two bought off this site!!)..the pictures are of my Grandpa and the GI Joe is a representation of one of the pictures in my collection...he was in a mounted infantry unit and fought at Voronezh and Kursk..(don't worry, the tunic is an East German one i cut up to display)..the buttons are real..the cap is repro, but the eagle and cockade are real..the CCC is repro and so is the DKiG..the breast Eagle is real..an don't forget the prerequisite books one must have to be a well informed collector

    Rich,

Allow me to compliment your collection.

So what if it's not the largest collection known to man.You have to start somewhere and you already have.

Better still,as you stated, many of your items are Vet aquired which to me makes them even better.

Remember these pics' in a couple of years, you'll be amazed at how your collection has grown!

By the way, I'm probably going to "filch" your method of displaying badges etc; with the tunic pocket as a backing, the display is entirely appropriate.

    Again, nice stuff!

That is all that is important is that YOU are proud of it. That aside, you already show an inclination to explore a subject in depth...and interest that usually comes with time spent in the hobby....not with newer collectors.
I personally enjoyed the early infantry shoulder straps. A matched set as these are scarce.

        Thanks

Thanks for the compliments guys....as i said earlier some of the items are repro and used as fillers....i simply can't afford to buy a DKiG or a silver CCC at this time...but eventually i'll be able to replace them with real ones!!...my favorite piece are the bino's...as a young kid living with my grandparents in Germany i can't tell you how many times i carelessly played with them...as i got older i knew they where from the war..but when i found that picture in Peter Senich's Sniper book i was amazed that i actually had something that was worth more than i expected...i wish i had gotten interested in the hobby sooner..like while my grandfather was still around..he died in 1995...he was no Knights Cross winner or Hero of the Fatherland, just a regular joe who fought for the Fuerher at a very pivetol time in history....and i'm proud of him for just being able to make it through in one piece...thats why i hold my little collection very dear..i do hope to add more in the future but i don't think i'll be able to match the capacity that some of the top guys on this forum have attained...you are welcome to "filch" the display idea, i saw it used before, and thought it was a good way to show awards in a different setting than the norm..but please check Ebay for cheap "East German" uniforms and don't cut up your good stuff
