Gee, it would be nice to have the money to 'buy' a collection instead of having to build it.
Very nice items.
I have to admit that I am very jealous of someone who can buy an outstanding collection in such a short time when many of us scrimp, save and learn with every single piece that we buy. Nothing against you, just jealous.
Absolutely fantastic Grant, I particuly like the worn pieces and four soutached caps to boot good God I have been working on securing one very worn Pz m41 soutached cap now for nearly 3 years direct from a vets family which just eludes me but oh so close ......I'm in shock
hello, Now you know why I was selling off some of my SS items etc... to get prepared for this. Most of the items came from one collection and at this time I cannot tell who's collection it was. Some of you might already know who and where it came from, but I hope that you understand why I cannot tell.
Mark, I know that this is what could be considered an "instant collecton" , but I must tell you that I worked very hard putting together my SS collecton and it took me over 10 years to do that. I was a little sad to see some of it go, but I felt for the history and investment that I should seize the opportunity to get this DAK collection. It was a matter of just moving money. I hope you understand, that I am not this wealthy person sitting on tons of cash. As I said, I did a lot of hotel buys and trade deals to put my SS collection together.
Also, This collection was not cheap by any means! The reason that the seller sold it was he is buying a house. He also only wanted to sell it as a group, one shot, and avoiding the pain by seeing it go, piece by piece.
The items that I bought at the show were: Two beast eagles, One officers belt, the NCO tunic and Pz. M41 ( from Bob Edwards, which was under his table and it was pure luck that I hit him at the right time), the one set Panzer EM slip on boards, The Panzer EM overseas (salty), and the French made DAK shirt. The rest was out of the collection.
Give me some time this morning and I will post some more pics. Grant

Hello Grant,
As I said nothing against you personally, I just had to admit seeing such a huge and wonderful hoard bought in one hit does make you quite envious and yes quite jealous. I would love to be able to pick up some of these wonderful items but, alas, the funds dry up when you have a recently attained mortgage these days. I discussed with a friend if a collection put together so quickly would receive the same appreciation as one built piece by piece but we are all different and I'm sure that you will appreciate every piece in the collection.
Of course, I do have a collection to be quite proud of and it has been a slow ongoing process putting every piece together, and I feel for you having to part with the SS side of the collection.
Take care and congratulations
Mark
(If jealousy were a sickness, right now I have the plague)
My goodness!!
I started out collecting a few DAK items and then switched to SS. One cant have it all. Still real true DAK items are among the most interesting items to be had!
Im not sure I have seen 4 real billed caps with soutache here the last 1-2 years. Now I see them in one picture! Fantastic!
