    My Collection

    Hi,

This is my collection. Although it is very small, at least it is mine

The documents you see are all to Unteroffizer Horst Muller, and what medals there are did not come with the grouping. I am still working on getting a Krim Shield and Infantry Assault Badge in Silver so as to go with their respective documents.

          Group(ie)s

          Hi,

I like your approach towards adding the missing medals from the group. Although some people argue that they do not strictly belong together, I feel the context of the documents group gives you an idea of what the medals represent in terms of the human factor, i.e. they are not just bright shiny (or dull zinky) objects that have a purely monetary value.

With the disproportionately high prices and high quality fakes that abound, I will never try to acquire a Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. A single original example of an infantry assault or wound badge, not necessarily by a rare manufacturer or in mint condition, is what I would look for to complete each military "biography", for example.

When you start researching the unit and campaign histories and work out what the individual went through to receive the awards he was given, you learn to appreciate simple and affordable combat awards to the common soldier.

If you find that Third Reich awards are too expensive, or simply copied too well, you might take a look at Imperial documents and awards, too.

Before long, you will probably acquire many such groups and regard the various individuals as the "people" in your collection, and not just anonymous receipients of impersonal awards.

Keep up the good work and enjoy every new addition.

          /David

            Nice stuff Dave,

I see you've got some of your photo's of Remy there. I think the best place for you to get a krim shield and IAB would be from Detlev as they are a lot cheaper then the UK.

I add medals to my document groups too, as I wouldn't 100% trust a document and medal group unless it came from a vet, to have all the original medals there.

            Keep up the good work

            Phil

                  Hi David,

Looks like you have a minty EK 2 there, and by the looks of it a nice gold wound badge!

Small compared to some but the content is GREAT.

                  Kind regards,

                  Marcus

Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.

@ Phil, I intend on getting those items from Detlev, unfortunely was not quick enough last week!

@ Marcus, the badge you see is a silver wound badge, its the glass and flash that make it look gold, I suppose. Getting a gold wound badge is one of my goals too. The nice minty EK2 you see is MM3 and I bought it from Neil

                      Great Stuff!

                      Hi David
Nice groupings. I also add medal and badges that are missing from document groupings.

I aso try to match the award to the date on the document. If the document for an Infantry badge is dated 1944, I match it with a zinc issued badge.

I bought a U-boat badge document and 2nd class EK document awarded to the same individul from Gordon Wiliamson and I plan on doing the same thing.
                      Regards,
                      Jody
