Repro Shadow Box

I found something interesting to do with the some of the repros I inadvertently bought in my beginner phase of collecting, thinking they were real. Instead of selling them off as repros, just to have them sold on the market again as originals to some unsuspecting chump, I decided to get them framed. I removed a breast pocket from an East German uniform I got off of eBay and sewed the proper amount of loops needed for the number of badges I was going to use. I then replaced the original button with an actual WWII German tunic button to make for a better match. I then bought a shadow box at a craft store (Hobby Lobby) and and glued the tunic pocket to the back board. I then put the badges and medal bar in placed and assembled the box and the out come is shown below. I think it turned out pretty nice despite the fact that they are repros. Oh yeah, the ribbon bar is an original piece.

Inspired idea, I like it. It looks good, shame they are repros ( ribbon bar withstanding ) but you have put them to good use.

That's a pretty neat idea. I'm always on the lookout for new and different ways to display items. I've seen Dagger/medal/photo combos that were nice but yours is the first display I've seen that used tunic cloth. Cheers, CB.

Thanks! I think this would be a great way to display real peices but I don't think I'd be willing to cut up a real tunic.

I think we've all had one of those!
I once came up with the idea of putting a big magnifying glass of a computer screen and it would cover the whole thing, till I realized they already had one

Your display is really terrific. FYI: I believe that Cyrus Lee, the author of the "Soldat" series of paperback WW II German uniform and equipment reference books, actually sells on his website tunic pockets that he's had made pre-cut to fit inside of frames or ryker mounts for collectors to do what you have just done.

13 years....I was in elementary school back them but still a very good idea
