    Hi Paul,
    Lovely tunic and nice boards, can you do a couple of close ups of the underside of the Litzen and interia pic showing the stitching of the eagle

      Hi Chris,

      Great question. I researched light blue boards for North Afrika, and here's what I found:

      29 Div. Supply-----------Division series: 5, 190, 220, 334, 999;

      22 Div. Supply-----------Division series: 33, 90, 200;

      2 Div. Supply-------------Division series: 5, 334;

      1 Supply-------------------N/533
      (Nachschub Bn.)............(N = nachschub)

      213 Mot. Transport------N/33-999
      (Kraftwagen Convy's.)...(Divisional series)

      51? Mot. Transport-------KF/ 33-999 divisional series.
      (Kraftfahr Convy's.)........(KF = kraftfahr).

      So, they may be supply or transport. In either case, the boards are extremely rare. The shade of light blue is very nice and I've only seen a couple other pairs & an odd single or two (with varying shades) in 25+ years of collecting. Although the shades may vary, they all fall within the same above classifications. To my knowledge, the only other shade of blue waffenfarbe authorized in North Afrika was dark blue.

      Below is a photo of another tropical light blue s/b taken from the Schiffer book: "Afrikakorps", page 304-05 (ISBN: 0-7643-1920-5).

      VERY, VERY NICE!

              Hi SurvivingPanzer,

              the black wrapper is to a Pz signals unit and it is an early one dated 1939 .. there is also an out line on the left hand sleave from a once present cuff title .. thanks for your interest ..

                  Two DAK tunics - before and after Afrika

                  Hello,

                  Those are two very attractive tunics you have there Paul.... I really like the black wrap & boards w/tabs.

                  Here's a couple 1st pattern tunics I've temporarily retrieved from storage which evidence the degree of fading which occurred under the North African sun. The tunic on the right is very green (only slightly faded as the removed insignia shows). The tunic on the right however is very faded.

                  The tunic on the left belonged to a DAK man who had been wounded early on. He attained the rank with a chevron on his left sleeve.

                  The tunic on the right belonged to a DAK man who remained in North Africa and was promoted from an em to an nco. He too had a chevron on his left sleeve, but it was removed and the tunic worn long in Afrika long thereafter.

                  Neat comparison.

                  Christopher

                      Hi Paul

                      Not sure how I missed this one...Wonderful tunic!! Reallly like the fading and wear. Especailly under the collar not exposed to the desert sun. '41 stamp too!

                      Below is a list of possible units...(thanks C Evans)
                      Supply Troops: in Afrika and the Balkans 1941-42.

                      Color is: Cornflower Blue.

                      Div Supply. 5,46 thru 887, 190,220,334,999.
                      Gebirgs Div Supply. 54,91,94,95.
                      Mot Div Supply. 4,61,66,82,85,160.
                      Armored Div Supply. 59,60,81.
                      Supply Btn, 533.
                      Mot Transport (Kraftwagon) Kps. 33 thru 999 and 4 thru 887.
                      Horsedrawn Kps. 4 thru 887

                      I agree with Chris that the man in the middle of the photo is not transport as the soutache appears to be pink or other light color not darker shade...

                      Paul this is very nice piece you have and something very special it may have even been at Sidi Rezezh, Nov 22, 66 years ago!

                      best regards
                      Tim

                        Paul's photo

                        Hi Paul,

                        I think you may have a most Rare photo. I believe the DAK man in the middle is wearing assault gun tabs and with a pink soutache on his M-40 cap. Most rare combo if true. Certainly appears to have larger than normal, colored litzen with some type of metal device (skulls) attached to the upper portion.

                        I was trying to enlarge, clarify and goof around with the brightness. I did not effect the content of the photo itself. If someone else could please enlarge the photo - just don't know how.

                        Christopher

                          Hi Tim,

                          Nice to hear from you and thank you for your kind remarks on my tunic ..
                          Thanks also for the list of possible units this guy may have served with.
                          I am going with the idea he may have been in Sidi Rezezh, that sure would be a nice thought wouldn't it

                          Hi Chris,

                          I have also tried playing around with the small photo but can do no better than your fine effort ... The photo i posted is sadly the best my camera can come up with .. Your thoughts on tabs etc certainly do make this guys family sound a little more exciting that's for sure

                          Cheers
                          Paul
