    Mannequins and Forms

We have seen many uniforms displayed on mannequins and forms. I am purchasing a uniform and am looking for a torso form for it. No head is necessary. We don't want to spend a fortune since we are doing that on the uniform, but we don't want anything that is flimsy.

Can anyone suggest where to find good ones?

    Thanks!

The cheapest way of all is:
Enter a clothing store that you think might have some to spare,
Ask politly if they have one to spare.
If they do, ask if you can buy one from them and how much they want.
Sometimes they will look strangely at you and say that they are not for sale.
sometimes they will look strangely at you and say you can have one for that and that price.
sometimes they will look strangely at you and say you can have one for free (I like this one the best ).

You can also check out your local costume stores. That is where all of mine were obtained. Be prepared to have to cut the mannequin down to size!

          Hi All,

I have had great luck at places second hand and thrift type stores. I have found boxes of styrofoam heads and full torso mannequins there. Sometimes complete and sometimes in need of a little extra work. Try them out...you'd be surprised at what you will find.

Your local area Goodwill store is a good place to look. Also if you want one for free try looking near the dumpsters of the major department stores (JCP/Wallmart) or a mall. However, you might have to fight off a vagrants or two since you are envading their home.

I picked up one last year from an old small town clothing store that was going out of business. Its a really small size, which you typically need for German tunics, and is an old one from the 50s, so it is made out of hard wood and steel...really heavy and solid, which is good too. I paid about $30 for it
