I have very little in the way of documents. I have an interesting Wehrpass to a fighter pilot which I will scan and post here.
Unfortunately, I wish I could report that the propeller shown in one of the photos was from a German aircraft. It is not.
After WWII, my father and grandfather went into the cropdusting business in Illinois. Dad bought three Stearmans, surplus from the government. These all had either Lycoming or Continental engines with wooden propellers on them. Dad paid a whopping $500 for one of the Stearmans that was 50 hours out of Navy overhaul (my grandpa was outraged he paid so much).
Anyway, Dad replaced these Sensenich wooden props with McCauley metal ones which were more efficient and better for what they were using the airplanes for. He kept two of the propellers and I have them both now.

Collecting mint condition Imperial German uniforms, visor caps, and Pickelhauben.
Nice story about the propelor, anyway a piece of history. Will be nice to see your fighter pilot Wehrpass. I'm also impatient waiting the 2nd part and hoping that this phrase of no 2nd part is good, this time will be wrong.
Thanks
Angel
Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.
Question on your curio cabinet Mike, does the light in there create enough heat to do any damage to items in the case? I just bought a curio too so I'm just curious.
really an awesome collection Mike, and very nicely displayed as well.
It always amazes me what for top quality collections the members of this Forum have.
this is my favorite Forum for showing my girl, then she realizes that I am not the only "crazy" collector in the world.
It is simply superb and that shows that when something is properlly done, the result can only be what we see here. Some items you have that I didn't find yet (the contrary is true also ) but when I see them is your collection I know they are at the right place - there is no jalousy, no envy .. only pleasure.
Some LW collections are very strong (and I am happy with that) but personally I have a great pleasure in this forum to see other collections - of course, they are differents but they all have the same "fiber" whatever they are badges, documents .........
So as I have said in the begining of this forum, no matter the size of your collection we all have to learn from each other.
Mike, not only do you have impeccable taste, but your commitment is truly an inspiration. It literally makes my heart race to see such an amazing collection.
a query:
I noticed that you have a cloth retired pilots badge. What are your thoughts on this? What would necessitate the use of a cloth badge of this type? I wasn't aware these even existed in cloth! (and admit I am overly curious why no one can produce a picture of one in wear, of any type)
Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997
