    Stuttgart findings

It might be nice to see what forum members bought at the Stuttgart show.

These are the findings of my visit on Friday. Prices were a bit high in my opinion.

    1) A nice Gebirgsjaeger photoalbum.
    2) Some pictures from the album, most likely a training course.
    3) A couple of pictures from a Gebirgsjaeger jumping over a glassier clove and lowering on a mountain side.
    4) A nice award document for the Narvikshield
    5) Two lonely Schulterklappen one with a slip-on Regimental number 98 in late war cloth and one early 137
    6) A Remembrance hanger from the 15./100 for their failed attempt to reach Kreta in May 1941 by using fishing boats.
    7) A small plaque thanking the families that housed members of a Gebirgs Aufklaerungsabteilung in 1940-1941
    8) A rather hard to find Bevo Edelweiss on Feldgrau. These are usually found on dark green.

Not overwhelming but nice finds and to me worth the trip.

          Hi Simon,

          The unit is 2./G.J.R. 138

@ Kai: I was there only for 2.5 hours, not enough to see 'everything' I'd like. Makes me wonder ... Most people drive 9 hours to go on a holiday and spend a couple of days ... I do the same and only stay for 2-3 hours and go through old rags and piles of rubish ... Am I the only one ?

Then- Why didnt you stay longer, i bet if someone was there for more than one day or one whole day and looked through everything really- and got to talk to sellers there was a lot nice stuff to find. i didnt look for something specific and was there from 1000-1700... although expensive there were nice things (among a lot of crap i have to admit)...
Well maybe i should have offered this before, but- you could have stayed at my place about 20 min drive from the show and go there saturday too- maybe the drive would have made more sense then.... next time maybe...

              Hi Kai,

Sounds nice. I arrived on Thursday and slept in the Europe Hotel (just around the corner). There were four off us. The other guys went to Chiney (Belgium) today, so that's the reason they couldn't stay longer. My reason was ... my wife and our two lovely doughters (11 months old).

I'll try next year to stay longer. Will you be in Kassel or Haiger next time ?

well, that that was a cumulation of things that prevented you from staying- yes, maybe next year...

no, i wont be in kassel or haiger because almost until october i have a very tight schedule for my weekends (test for university, shooting competitions, family birthdays, army wehrübung, trip to USA etc.) ...i only was in stuttgart because its just in front of my door .. and hoped to meet some people from the forum there...

That makes the doc quite special. As far as i know only 79 members of 2./GJR 138 were involved in the campaign. On 18.5.40 16 men were landed by seaplane and on the 22.5.40 a further 63 under Hauptmann Renner (then oberleutnant i think).

                  regards

                  Simon
