I use the mylar in indirect sunlight for good photos when I shoot in natural lighting.

I'm still working with my ring light too. We'll get it perfected in time. The equipment will do it - we just need to learn how to make it work.

I have a wide variety of things I'll play with....I'll probably end up with a piece of spun glass, or frost, as those are the preferred diffusion for lights of this type.
When I take more photos with these, I'll post them...

        Cheers,

I am saving my money to be able to buy a Canon EOS 450D.
            http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos450d/
Any of you guys have any experience with this camera?

I really like the idea of the ring light

            /Flemming

            PS

I am having an older non-digital Canon EOS, and I am able to reuse my two lens and my Flash. That is the reason why I am considering to choose a Canon again

I've tried to use Marc's very helpful tips to create the following photos. First up how it would have looks sans Marc's tips!

Now, taking on board Marc's tips... The piece in the background is also in focus!

                Thanks Marc!

I think my lighting was not to good here as the detail is lacking towards the bottom?

This one came out quite well. Constructive criticism?

Hello Richard - Your overall picture in post 86 looks great with the sharp color and detail of your medals. The b/w picture in the background does not appear to be as sharp or show detail.

Do you think is down to the camera itself? The photo was relatively far back in relation to the awards in order to get it in the pic. Maybe the camera can only bring into focus up to a determined distance? Maybe I need to leave the shutter open longer?

                            Does anyone know?

Yes, as Marc was saying in his opening presentation/tutorial, set the shutter to stay open longer (1/60th of a second) to bring everything into focus. This you would find on the 'S' setting on the turret, or like Marc camera, under the 'menu' options. These cameras will do things beyond our understanding. Look at all that color in post #82.

here is a video of how to build your own,

but I'd rather use the diffusion panels as sheets look very messy and clumsy to set up.
