    My Collection Marcus H

To forum members and non members,

This weekend i have discovered to my dismay that my beloved dear collection ,attibutes to nothing but alot of reproductions.

I can't thank the moderators and members of this forum enough for their sympathies, compassion, tact ,advice, support, help and invaluable knowledge.

You all know who are and i'll say it again thankyou for the PM's and those of you who telephoned me.I feel like i am amongst friends.

For anyone reading this who is not a member i suggest you join this forum,if i had known about it i would be thousands of pounds better off.

This is not a plug but its a non profit site where my peers give the benefit of their knowledge in thier own time for free.

I still can't and will not name the dealer for legal reasons, but be aware this was part of my life my collection i'd sit and stare it for hours so proud of it.

I feel gutted and so stupid, 13 years of the same dealer whom i trusted. So i ask if you think you know who it maybe or suspect or indeed you know keep it to yourself on my behalf.

Please pay heed to my words,

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

I am truly sorry this happened to you on such a devastating magnitude I do hope that you do not leave the collecting community. With the help of this great website, you can continue your hobby, this time, however, being sure that what you are collecting is legitimate. Good luck.

NO YOU SHOULDN'T. While Greg has a point and I admit I sometimes get passionate about stuff like this and have actually tried to trash some notable fakers you should try legal means first.

Yes, I would try to write a letter...get everything documented. Have the letter notorized if possible and send it to him, saying, "it has come to my attention," yadda, yadda. Then I would remind him that you have been a loyal customer, you aren't accusing him of anything and that you hope he will do the right thing.

If you are asked on a forum like this if the seller has indeed sold fakes, then you are free to respond but I think you are asking to only make matters worse if you try to attack him directly. How did you pay for the stuff? Was anything mailed to you? If you used Visa or another credit card you will have some protection.

If he sold you an item and it was transported in the mail, depending on the country, you can file a mail fraud report. I believe the law says that it is mail fraud if an item is not exactly as described or if a mistake is made, a refund is entitled.

Now for items that you bought years and years ago you are probably out of luck. But for recent purchases you should really push to get your money back. I would suggest that you try to work out a blanket deal if possible.

With one seller I tried to return an item, offered to cover his expenses and he basically refused. I eventually did a charge back and this guy still bugs me from time wanting me to pay his expenses. So sometimes trying to play it nice doesn't work out. But I'd hate to see you badmouth the guy and lose any chance of getting money back. Play it as the nice guy first and you can always bring it up a notch.

              Sorry

              Hello Marcus

I have been following your threads for the past few days and I must tell you how sorry I feel for you. I guess we have all been in a situation from time to time when an item we thought was good, turns out in fact to be a fake but having so many bad ones must be soul destroying. This is unfortunately a very sad fact about this hobby, that there are so many conmen around, it is getting more and more difficult to really trust people. I hope that all the honest traders and other sellers who use this forum will see your various threads and pause to think for a moment. They should bear you in mind and be prepared to answer questions from the large number of buyers who may still be on a learning curve, be prepared to supply more information and details when requested to do so. Openness and honesty amongst the members of this forum can only serve to help its members and increase its reputation.

If these items were indeed purchased from the same trader, I think we would all want to know who he is in order to avoid any similar mistakes in future. Maybe you can divulge his location, base town, etc... therefore avoiding any legal problems.

As far as your collection of fakes is concerned, or at least the corresponding threads, how about having another section in this forum to catalogue (and be able to search) all the fakes that have been shown and denounced as such. Maybe the moderators have comments for or against this idea.

Anyway, all the best to you and don't let the buggers grind you down.

              Terry

                Hi Marcus,

                Very sad storry indeed.

If you want to pursue this legaly I hope you at least have an invoice for every item you bought from him, otherwise it will be very dificult to make him accountable.

                  Hello Marcus.H
I may not have been a member of this forum for long but what i have seen on this site sure makes me check on various threads if iam not sure about an item.
Its only been the past few years i have been collecting German items mostly from dealers but if there is a rotten egg in the basket it stinks i know i got egg on my face once bigtime.
I know you cant name this geezer but whats to stop some other poor guy getting ripped off, hell he might be my next deal who knows.
I feel for you man but i agree with Gregory K give this chump what he deserves.

                    My sincerest sympathies Marcus.

I don't understant how someone could knowingly rip someone else off. Its sick. It really is.

Most of us aren't in this for the money but the love of history and being able to "caretake" for these items for awhile.

I would have thought that dealers were just people trying to make aliving doing something they love but doing it honorably. I know I certainly would. I guess there are just some sick people out there as shown here.

I hope you sue him, sue him for everything he's got and then some.

And perhaps once all the legal things are decided you can let other people know about this man.

                    Hope all works out,

                    Cole

Marcus You have our sympathy as you well know. If and when the time comes when you can reveal the dealer's name I hope you do it by listing the items for sale with a picture of the item and the invoice on this site. In the listing you should express doubts that the item is genuine but that the dealers invioce speaks for itself. Hopefully you can hang him with his own words and yet avoid a law suit. I have seen this type of action work well in the past with bad checks. the bad check was put on display in a dealers case at a coin show and offered for sale for best offer! The check was made good very fast by the dealer who issued it. I'm very impressed that you haven't said "chuck it" to the entire hobby and hope you will get full restitution. Hang in there, Fred

                          Marcus,

                          You will triumph!

You have taken a tremendous hit, but kept your wits. It is best you not name names just yet. Proceed with all the legal means possible.

When all is done and still no justice . . . then the gloves come off!

                              Hi Marcus,

I to have been following your very painful awakening.
I hope you get the chance to get your money back from this guy, I think that when you get the matter settled, either satisfactily or not, you should name this guy on the Association pages to stop others getting burned by him (at least tell us the Town).
You have my sympathies and hopefully it all works out for the good.
