    Hello,

    Firstly what a great site!!!!
    I wish i'd known about it a couple of years ago,i'd have saved (with a red face) alot of money!
    I wanted to post my collection but i won't yet,not until i've weeded out a few iffy ones.

    Thanks for every ones help. Here are mine at least i can these are genuine.

          Mr. Marcus, You have some nice medals!
          Those are yours rite? They are very nice looking. I asked my dad what I had to do to get medals and he said get older and take a chance on getting shot at or killd. You are very brave.

            I think it's much more fun collecting medals than being in the army and getting them.

              Hi guys. Another way to get medals and know that they are genuine is to inherit them. It is a sad way and implies a greater responsiblity than simply buying them from a stranger but as collectors it is our duty to preserve these historical milestones. Here are my dad's medals which I often display at local military and coin shows along with his history.

                  Hello,

                  My medals are as follow:

                  Gulf War Medal

                  General Service Medal,Northern Ireland Bar

                  UN Bosnia

                  NATO Bosnia (Former Yugoslavia Bar)

                  NATO Kosovo (Kosovo Bar)

                  And lastly which MOST British servicemen/women weren't given permission to wear is the Saudi Arabian Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait.

                    The medal on the right is the Army of Occupation Medal with the "Germany" bar on the ribbon. The obverse has the Remagen Bridge and the reverse has Mt. Fujiyama. It is an exceptionly well designed medal. thanks for asking, Fred

                      Why did my dad get the Bronze Star? I'm not sure! He did not get it for a specific action or act since it does not have the "V" for valor on the ribbon. My dad thought it was for the siege of Bastogne . In general I think his and most other Bronze Stars were awarded for long term meritorious service. He was awarded his in General Order 88 HQ 101 Abn Div 45 which was before Oct 1945 but as of now researchers have not been able to locate the 101'st WWII general orders!! I could email a listing of my dad's medals to anyone who wants a copy. MajorPayne, my dad had a very unusual military history which you might find interesting since he was German born and if you like I could email it to you. I could post it here as it appears in the exhibit but I don't want anyone to think that I am trying to hijack this thread. Cheers to all, Fred

                        Hello Fred,

                        maybe he got the Bronze Star with the "automatism" in connection with the Combat Infantry Badge. Every holder of the CIB or the Combat Medical Badge was entitled for a Bronze Star (withour "V") after the war.

                        Yes, if you want you can mail me your dads history.

                          My medals I just got for a duration overseas, I spent my time in the Gulf War watching Sky T.V.

                          Put it this way,the boy wanted to do what the man didn't.I know soldiers with one or two medals whos actions and experiences put me to shame.

                          I feel I earn't them did my bit in this day and age,but what your Father went through in 24 hours makes me feel false.

                          I would be MOST interested in what your Father did PLEASE share it with us and by all means steal the the thread we would all be more interested in your brave(Bloody HERO)Fathers medals.

                          I only put mine up because all my German medals have turned out to be repro's,sort of tongue in cheek "I know these are genuine."

                            Thanks Jens, that was my first thought too but I now know that the bronze Star was not linked to the combat infantry badge until 1947 and my dad was already credited with his bronze star before Oct. 1945. I will send both you and Marcus copies of the history as an attachment to emails shortly. Fred
