    Moth Balls

My collection consists of just about everything. Tunics, medal, helmets, daggers, and photgraphs. Since I have a lot of little hands arond the house, I keep everything in a walk-in closet that they can't get into into. To keep the moths away from the wool, I have a good dose of moth balls inside. Does anyone know if the oder moth balls give off will cause damage to any of these other items(metal/photos/leather).

    Thanks Jeff

    Get Rid of the MothBalls

I totally agree with C.M. Alexander, moth balls are wonderful if you are going to store a uniform (or anything cloth) in a closed storage bag or trunk. BUT, for a room that you will be going in and taking others into to show off your collection, cedar chips will definately be nicer. I made a few display cases out of cedar, the cases look nice and the room smells good.

Not to get into the preference of using Cedar or Moth balls but it should be worth mentioning that Cedar only repels Moths, Moth Balls will kill them and their Larve...

And mothballs will do serious and essentially irreversible damage to medals.
