my great grand dad (August Hanstein) was a medic on the east front. he was awarded the iron cross (im not sure if it was 2.class or 1.class). He was taken prisoner at Stalingrad. but he was one of the luckey few to return home in 1949. (to his home in Hartz in Schleswig-Holstein)
his dauther (my grandmom) met my grand dad when he was a "peace keepeing soldier" in germany in 1950. and took her home to norway with him

that is mye short family story :P

Thats a very nice collection, and a incredible story of your great grand dad.
The ribbon bar consists on 2 awards
The first one is a KVK (Kriegsverdienst Kreuz = War Merit Cross) with swords and the other one i cant distinguish it (could be the ribbon for the ost medal (?))

A very nice and personal collection! You should be very proud (And I'm sure you are) of your great granddads diploma and the other things. Good luck with your collecting.

                          /Henrik

                                first bayonet

Hello. I think the first bayonet (the one that yor refer as being light) is russian, the first pattern for the AK-47 submachine gun. http://www.ak47bayonets.com/gear/Gea...gear1148229789

And btw, nice collection. You could find the awards that your granddad received (war merit cross and ostmedaille) and make a display along with the photos and his diploma.

                                Take care and happy collecting.
                                Cristi
