    Wooden Medal Case

I would like to ask your opinion on these wooden cases which I found today in a local shop.

I think they are perfect for storing your medals in. On the right you can see how they are sold in the shop and on the left after I put some black velvet and my EKII’s in it.

They are not too big and not too small, the measurements are: length 27.8 cm, width 20.5 cm, depth 3.0 cm outside and 2.2 cm inside.

I think the price is even the best, if I would take a few they would cost me $10 each.

What do you think about these cases and do you think some fellow members would be interested in buying some?

I am NOT selling these cases I’m just asking your opinion. If there is some interest in them I will sell some on the e-stand.

    Thanks,
    Pascal

        Medal Case

        Hi
They certainly do look good in the case, and a reasonable price too.
It is always difficult to decide how best to display / store these items.

          Very nice, yes.

But not too much different from a wooden cigar box, which can be had free from tobacconists (if you ask nicely). I use cigar boxes for storage; I find that the cedar they are made from to be a preferable wood for this. Cedar will not absorb moisture rapidly, by nature.

I can't say that I find this type of box very useful for displaying, though, since you have to expose what's in them as the lids aren't exactly transparent.

Still, yours look like nice boxes for storage and they have the advantage of a uniform size, which cigar boxes don't.

BTW: if you use a little ingenuity, some small screws and some elastic banding, you can modify the inside lids of your boxes to hold some stuff, too. Cuff titles and campaign shields fit up there nicely, I've found.

This is not meant as a jab at your boxes. I want to merely express my experience with wooden boxes as displays. Hopefully you'll take this in the friendly way in which it is intended, between colleagues. My best to you!

Those look nice, but my dad said it might cost to much to ship it from Europ. My dad says the woodworking class mite be able to make me one for my pocket nives. Those are nice boxs.

Thanks you for all your comments on these boxes. BTW they are not my boxes they just some boxes I found yesterday at a local shop at what I thought (and still do) a very reasonable price.
My intention was sharing this find with you and if somebody was interested I would buy and ship them for him at cost price.

My idea was to use them for storage purposes and not as a display case. You could of course change them and put a glass front in them but I think they would become too expensive and would be better of making new cases.

@ Ralph, all comments are taking in a friendly matter. Any comment is better as none.

@ James, nice idea but my idea was to use for storage not display. They would probably end up as expensive boxes and I thought the price was the main attraction.

@ Erik, I have no idea what it would cost to ship them over to the US. You are right that a woodworking class would be able to produce these boxes.

I think they are very nice boxes and I will definitely buy a few more to keep my own medals in. I am not making these boxes and I just wanted to offer my service to anyone who was interested in these boxes (without any profit).
                I was just an idea………………..

                Thanks,
                Pascal
