For me the 2nd line of defence after good basic home security inc house alarm, is the conversion of
one room in your home into a strong room using a good solid door, deadbolt locks etc etc.

For me however I still prefer the vault at the bank to keep my most precious items.

There is always a trade off....

          " showoff versus stolen "

you will have to weight it yourself.

p/s: The safest place is to show it off in the forum.

Hmm it is a bit of a bugger ain't it? Whilst I have my para wings & cap badge collection in frames on the wall - plus a few framed medal groups - my main medal collection is in a safe. I like the idea of a strong room - great if you have a spare room or a basement. But most modern houses ain't up to it (in the UK). You could poke your finger through the bloody walls with some of the cheap knock ups that I've seen.

I think the key here is insurance - lots of it. It's no good when your pride & joy gets robbed, but at least there's something to enable you to start again. It's surprising how many people don't have a basic policy.

...make good quality color copies of the documents and use those for your display. It will also keep them from being damaged by sunlight and humidty.
