    Display Cabinet

When I first started collecting, I came across an old dentist’s cabinet that seemed almost perfect for stashing my hoped-for collection. However, antique dentist’s cabinets were very expensive and this was not quite exactly what I had in mind. One day, while scouring local antique shops for potential additions to my collection of military medals, I found a custom furniture maker in a shop next to one of the antique stores so I went in. The oak cabinet you see pictured here is the result of that chance visit.

I had the drawers made with an inside measurement of 13x17 inches by 1.5 inches. They are designed so that I can place a Ryker mount inside each drawer to hold medals. The drawers can also be opened far enough for the full Ryker mount to be seen.

The glass doors on the bottom hold part of my reference collection. When I had it made ten years ago, 26 drawers seems like more than enough but sad to say I have long since out grown this space and could use another half-dozen drawers!

I think the cabinet is quite unique and a great looking piece too. I hope you enjoyed looking at it.

Excellent ! And this way you have no ribbon fading problems due to light exposure.

Sorry that the pictures have crashed. I have an hourly file transfer limit on my website and it must have been exceeded by the eight hits. It refreshes every hour so check back later.

I started collecting a few years ago and I have gotten to the pont where I am in need of a good quality display cabinet or box. Does anyone know of a company that builds them in a way that will not wear or have any other damaging effects on medals, daggers, etc... I would prefer to spend my money on adding to my collection so I would be looking for something that wont kill the pocket book. Thanks

The cabinet cost $650 and took about a month to receive. Not bad when you consider that it has 26 drawers and how much 26 individual oak 12x16 display cases would cost.

That is a super deal! To bad I do not live in your neck of the woods... actually I would not mine since I like Tucson and will be there in Aug.

                  Cheers

                      Hi,
Check out your local Asian furniture dealer as they almost always have someone back home that can make one for you and i my add in a lot better wood than oak,a local one near to me will make me one like the above shown i don't want the glass doors in either Honduras mahogony or rosewood to the highest carpentry standards ,not cheep but it depends on what you want to put in it,here in England the quote is approx £500 .

Here is another drawer in the cabinet, this is one of three drawers with DDR medals. You can see how the Riker mount fits nicely in the drawer.

Do the place where you got the cabinet from. Have a website?
