    Ranger Patches

I started to collect Ranger patches but found that authenticating old patches to be a very daunting task. I decided to stick with what I know. If anyone has been to Ft. Benning they are probably familier with Ranger Joes located just off post thats where these patches and crests came from.

If anyone else has Ranger patches past or present, or any other airborne patches, and of course to the victors of Desert Storm any unit patch to include Mech. or Marine patch please post!

    Nice

nice scrolls! Ask Bill Dienna though for a picture of his Uncle's WWII Ranger Diamond. I think he still has it, pretty neat and from the Ranger himself!

I've posted these before, but what the hell...

You've got one of those in your display, but here's another 1st Batt scroll from the pre-Regiment days:

Found this one while rooting through the flea market across from the Traffic Light Inn (familiar to most people who've spent time at Benning), and I came across a box with about a dozen old-style 1st and 2nd Batt scrolls, both regular and subdued. This is the only one I have left, as they proved popular with some of the Grenada vets I knew in IOBC and at RTB who wanted the old-style scrolls for their right-shoulder patch.

Another place to find stuff like this aroung Benning is Ranger Rags, Ranger Joe's surplus annex next door (where Little Dick's used to be - that was a big Battboy hangout, IIRC). Ranger Rags takes stuff in trade - FMs, TA-50, BDUs, etc. - so you can pick up the occasional patch and badge for old extra junk of yours.

Here's the unauthorized 5th Ranger Battalion scroll, privately made and often worn in place of the diamond:

I would love to find an original diamond, but I would imagine 95% of them out there are Saving Private Ryan repros or the like. Bill, if you've got pics of a known original, post 'em!

        Hey

What was that place that used to sell BDU's cheap for Ranger School...it was on Victory Drive, and was run by an old guy who was X-Army (I think). You would walk in and BUD's and TA-50 were everywhere, on the walls were posters of everything from M-1 Tanks to naked women. If I remember it was inbetween that all you can eat buffet and right before US Cav. Nicest old guy, everyone from IOBC that I knew got their BDUs from this place so their good set didnt get ruined.

The Traffic Light Inn! Dang now that is a name, and place, you never forget at Benning, that and hte Platnum Club off exit 5!

I kind of liked the "Aztec Lounge"
Front row seats every Friday night when we were on post
