Bunker complete!

...well, almost. At least, its far enough along to have begun moving my collectibles into it. The main cabinet isn't built yet, but I thought you'd like to see the progress. I have some of my items out already, as you will see.

The entire room is climate controlled. Caulked, insulated, sealed, sound proofed and properly ventilated to the outside of the house through an elaborate ducting system. All the cabinetry wood is fire-treated. There's even an air purifier and a dehumidifier. It should be a great place to store all my "stuff". The room itself is concealed from view; There's a wall in the basement that moves to conceal the pocket door entrance. Really cool.

I wanted a room that would be secure enough so that I could leave my collectibles out to enjoy; not stuffed in boxes or behind glass. I'm going to monitor them closely, but I think I have succeeded in achieving an acceptable level of security and a healthy humidity- and dust-free environment for my "investments".

Others have commented on how it feels like a museum inside the room.

That is so cool, I think when I put my bunker together its going to be like that, a collection room/chill out room/office. I've got a long way to co yet but thats what I'm aiming for

Excellent craftmanship Ralphie III!

One tip regarding that cabinet since my newly constructed one is already full again: Make it twice as big as you planned. Forget what I said, three times as big!

Hmm, that bunk within the bunker makes me wonder. A man with a weird mind and an attractive woman has built a bunk with TV and video in a surrounding filled with "Nazi" stuff. That really kick starts my fantasies!

Whatever you do in it, it is definitely a place to stay forever young in!

And damn proud of it.

Fiberglas, mostly, but also some gatorfoam. The sandbags stuck in the areas between the joists are full of foam rubber. ...for stopping rubber bullets.

All the wood and the decorative panels are parts of old trade show exhibit booths I built years ago and later retired.

The fridge for beer is just outside in the workroom. Refrigerators as you know are excellent dust magnets, and as such are banned from the museum...I mean bombed out bunker.

Nice work Ralph. Its nice when to hobbies meet. Im also a woodworker and am building two new display cases. I will post pictures when they are done this Spring.

Not too long ago I saw someone selling (I think on Ebay) what they claimed were bunker lights from german installations on the Jersey Islands. If you got your wife on the computer right now, they would make a lovely Valentine's gift for you....

Hey Ralph, I'm sure that we can get you some (original) bunker lights and perhaps a bunker door, for your room...What you really need is a bunker telephone system so that you can keep in touch with the family....
