    The Military Shop

    Hello folks,
I am starting this thread on Steve Wolfe's old store the Military Shop. I didn't date these photos, and they were taken at different times, but it does show a lot of the things he used to display.

When I find the rest of the photos, I will post them as well. It was a great shop and used to have camo netting on the ceiling. BTW, if anyone else has old photos of the Military Shop, please post them here.
    Regards,
    Jody

Here are some great SA items, and check out those cased German Orders and golden party badges (one of the most impressive things I have seen in this hobby). The Kepi in the right corner belonged to Stabschef Victor Lutze and in front of his kepi is a Feldherrenhalle cufftitle and a funeral sash that would of been used by the last two SA Stabschefs Victor Lutze and Wilhelm Schepmann. I believe the other kepi is for Feldherrenhalle. I think the dagger was a full Roehm.

      One of my favorite displays.

      Jody

The photo was taken in the early 80's (judging by the books for sale-maybe around 1982-I think). I like the use of a well worn battle flag-cool display.

Please take note of the SA Feldherrenhalle tunic, one of my favorites.

It's a great shame he doesn't have a web site.

The pictures would be from the late 1970s, as I remember the Viktor Lutze display very well. Howard Lathrop, Steve's partner, made off with most of the good stuff one night in 1977 or 1978, and the shop was never the same after that. [as I explained in the other thread]. In fact, it didn't stay open a whole lot longer.

Below is a business card from those days.

                  Hi Steve,
I will have to disagree on with you on that one. That last photo was at least taken after 1983 (the other photos were from the 70's, as I said earlier not all of the photos were taken at the same time). I just checked my books and the one helmet book displayed for sale was not published until 1983 (Volume II German Helmets 1933-1945 A Collector's Guide). Plus I remeber visiting that store in 1985 with my friend Victor. That night we went to see the movie "Back to the Future".

                  Regards,
                  Jody

                    Hi Jody,
I've no doubt you're right. I actually left So. Cal. in 1982, so didn't really keep up with what happened to the shop after I left. So, my reference would mainly have to do with Wolfe's earlier association with Howard Lathrop, and that adventure. After they broke up, the shop did languish for a while. Seems like Wolfe resurrected it after that. I actually didn't want much to do with Wolfe by the time I left, as I mentioned in the other thread, as he had started bad mouthing me for no reason. I had gotten sick of some of the petty rivalries that seemed endemic in the collecting field down there then, so I go out of collecting for a while.

                    Do you remember Howard Lathrop?

                    Steve

                      Hi Steve,
I kinda do, now that you mentioned him. Who really stood out to me was Steve and later Neil.

For example, when I used to go to his shop I used to mainly buy models and books (I collected militaria, but their stuff was generally too exspensive, although I did buy a few things from them) and Steve was the one I dealt with. Steve also took my mother and I on my first tour of the bunker.

When I first visited the place I was 12 years old and Steve was the one who stood out to me. Later on I guess Neil was there. I guess all of the visits kinda blurred together for me.

Regardless, it was still a great place.

                        Hi Guys,
thanks again Jody for posting the pics.....this takes me back! PLEASE, if anyone has more pics or can ask Steve if he has some....please do!

I went to the shop just once, as I was from overseas. I had to drag my family there.....It was 1976 I believe, and I was just 15. The shop was the first "real" shop I had ever seen (I had seen a few small stands and such in London when we were there, but nothing like this!). I remember the Lutze display well.....it was right next to the stairs. I also remember the fahnen on the wall (several more I might add!) and the cammo netting on the ceiling. But the highlight for me and the thing that proved to be inspirational was there was a "sandbox" with several dummies all carrying rubber cast weapons in the middle of the floor. That blew me away.....and started my desire for complete uniforms on dummies.....head-to-foot at that very moment!

Steve (I include the add again below for those reading this for the first time, as it shows him modeling a uniform) took my father and I down to the storeroom and showed us the racks just groaning with uniforms, and huge boxes of field equipment. To get at the tunics you had to force your hands in and push them apart......there were so many. it was a fabulous treat to see it! At this point I owned just one tunic......that was all. Since then I have had some wonderful items and a collection that now includes 14 armoured wraps. So the visit was definately inspirational!

I hope other pics come out of the woodwork!
                        Cheers, Wade K.

                          Hi Wade,
I am glad you like them. I will find some more of them. I am not into uniforms very much so that is why most of the posts show decorations, flags, etc. I do have a photo somewhere of the soldier showing the halt sign.
                          Regards,
                          Jody

That will be the Feldgendarmerie figure above the stairs as you descended down into the bunker? Would love to see that again! Great to see it all after so long....can't wait to see more! Cheers and thanks, Wade K.
