    A Recent KM Display.

    Hello all,

A friend and I routinely put on displays at our local gun show and at this past one we decided to do one on the Kriegsmarine. I have only been collecting KM for about a year and this is the bulk of what I have. Unfortunately not all of it belongs to me as the dagger, EM's buckle, and the white drill uniform belong to my friend.

We had a great day overall and even met a couple of KM vets. One said that he was present for the launching of the Prinz Eugen. Unfortunately he wasn't one to go into too much detail but he did like our display very much.

Sorry for the poor photos but lighting was poor in the hall and my camera was on the wrong setting and I didn't notice until afterwards. Thanks all for looking. Please feel free to comment.

    Cheers,
    Greg

The display case. 90% of these items were obtained by me directly from the Royal Canadian Artillery vet who "liberated" them all in Holland in 1945.

The flags. Nothing earth shattering but I am told that the one in the middle is quite scarce.

Thanks again for looking. Looking forward to hearing some of your comments.

          Cheers,
          Greg

                  Hi Greg,
As one KM collector to another, you have some super items there. Very, very nice!
                  Regards,

                    Hi Greg, nice display

Displays at shows seems to be a North American thing, I have never really seen it done in the UK. Do you get lots of people wanting you to sell them things? I see you had some "wanted" flyers, do you get much stuff offered to you via these?

                    Cheers, Ade.

                        Hi all,

Thanks so much for the kind words. It means a lot ot me to know that you all appreciate my humble little KM collection.

We do put these displays on at almost every local show and try to change it up every time. That keeps it fresh and interesting. Although truth be told only about 5% of the people that actually walk by even take the time to stop and have a look but such is life. Most that do stop to look are quite appreciative but there are the few that give queer looks when they see the swastika. I suppose it would be worse if there are SS pieces involved but I find that the people that are giving the "stink eye" are uneducated to the different types of German militaria. For them a swastika is a swastika.

As far as my collecting KM goes I like to get things that aren't run of the mill. I prefer quirky things like the porthole and other such oddities.

                        Ade:

Firstly many thanks for your kind words...I truly appreciate them. I do find that of all the threads posted with show displays that most, if not all, are in North America. I really can't explain why. More often than not people ask how much this item or that is in the display case itself. I've put up signs in the past that state that the items are for display only and not for sale but most people don't even notice. The "wanted" flyers are a hit and miss. Most times people don't offer things but there have been times where people have walked up and given me things for free. This past show I was offered two collections (uniforms, badges, etc.) as well as miscellaneous other bits from random folks (still negotiating prices with all of them to date) so it was quite a good show for that.

Thanks again all and please keep those comments coming. If there are photos of specific pieces that you would like to see then by all means ask away. Most of these bits reside with me so I can surely accomodate.

                        Cheers,
                        Greg
