Just got one of these beauties today ...

Glad I came back and looked at Marc's setup on the first post. I was not placing the lights properly. The outfit comes with no instructions at all. I guess they just assume you know what you are doing -- and in my case, not good to assume anything.

Don't do what I did.

I got one of the studio in a box sets at Circuit City about 2 years ago. I was very happy with it, and started photographing my collection. I had a table set up near my computer, and was working away.........photographing and transfering to the computer. I don't remember how many days I used it when one day after a session I turned the lights off..........after digging out some more things to shoot, I turned the lights back on...........POW.....POP.....sparks shot out of the lights and the bar I had them plugged into, as well as my computer went dark. The computer bar and the light bar had been plugged into the same outlet. I went down and reset the breaker, but when I tried to fire up the computer........no go. I took the computer in for about a $300 repair, bought two new bars, and threw the lights of the studio in a box in the trash. I don't know to this day what the cause was.........."pilot error", bad bars, power surge, I wasn't holding my mouth right as I flipped the switch, or that the lights were rather cheap made in China junk.......but the cheap studio had a rather hefty price for me in the end. Oh........I also bought a better, but more expensive set of lights and haven't had any similar problems since. Yep.....they sure were.

It's a little more expensive, but uses fluorescent lights which are much cooler and safer to work with. Plus Lowel is a professional lighting company that has been around since 1959.
