We all know to find militaria dealers. But where can we find stores that sell accesories like display cases, mannequins or small standards for medals? Does anybody know where to find these kind of things?

mannequins.
Hello Volkbert,
a good source of mannequins can be found at:
http://www.mannequins.nl
you should find something that fits the bill.
All the best,
Patrick.

This won't help you Volkbert as these stores probably don't exist in the Netherlands, but the rest of the forum should look at the curios at "The Bombay Company." These are usually found in shopping malls.
I just picked up a nice walnut finished (not real walnut) wall-mounted 3-shelf curio for $80. It was on sale from $200 to $100, but I made them an offer for $80 and they agreed. I'm going to post pictures of my (fledgling) collection in it soon. It looks nice!

Hi George, never use Styrofoam heads unless they are covered with clean cotton covers. Cut up a T shirt and cover them. These foam heads give off fumes that will harm the leather on sweatbands, liners, etc. I cringe each time I see these in peoples collections or on dealers websites.
Hope this info is of use?
Cheers, Ade.

Hey,
I have used Bluegrass for cases before and was very happy. Certain woods give off fumes and should be avoided. There is an article either on the open site or the members site about storing you collectables. It tells what woods make for safe cases. Also, try eBay for mannequins. There are several on there right now.David Tiffin

I bought some display cases from Custom Displays, and was very pleased with them, they look superb and are well made. However I should point out that shipping and customs duty made them quite an expensive purchase in the end, in effect doubling the cost.
A cheaper method I used recently was that I purchased a wooden cutlery box with a perspex lid from a second hand stall. It only cost me £3.50 and came with about ten spoons and forks! I ditched these and gutted the fittings of the box and placed some foam ( archival foam is the best as its acid free ) inside and placed my pieces on the foam. I also added some hook and eye catches so that the lid stayed flush to the base of the box and that the badges were held to the foam. It looks quite good and saved me a fair bit of money.
