    FreiKorps Collection

I posted my few FreiKorps medals in the Imperial section for some questions but thought it might do well to show them here as well. I've re-scanned them and added captions.

Recognize the "Silesian Medal of 1919" (that's what I've heard it called...perhaps someone out there knows a 'better name') as the inspiration for the Anti-Partisan Badge. I have the version to sew on the sleeve and the badge with pin. The badge I believe I picked up at Detlev (I need to check my records to confirm) a few years back.

Nice, do you only collect Freicorps items?

        Freikorps

@Nick: I only collected a few Freikorps when I started collecting a few years back...which you see here. Since, I pretty much stayed with 3R military and political badges & medals. Recently, my collection was focused on minesweepers but I'm starting to look at other venues as the MS acquisitions have hit a plateau. PAB's are starting to look good and I've added a number of them recently. Nonetheless, I've always taken a look at the Freikorps stuff when the are around which is infrequent but with so much 3R stuff to buy I just don't have enough resources (ie, $). In fact, I've often seriously thought of selling these to finance some 3R purchases. But I like the history of these badges, and when folks come over I like to show them my collection so I start with these as these are the nationalistic and militaristic precursors to the NSDAP movement. From a design and chronological perspective it makes sense. And I think also it gives those folks who don't know me a sense of my true interest in history not just Nazism.

          Hi,

Really nice items. But I noticed on the left medal some dutch words. It says ''naar oostland willen wij rijden''.I find it quite remarkable to see this on German freikorps medals.Do you have some explanation ?

          regards,

          Etienne

Regretably, I can not explain the Dutch words. However, I did find this badge in Detlev's recent book and Hartung's book. I've attached them below.

Here's Detlev's with an apparent document.

This is from Lothar Hartung's small book on Freikorps medals. The cover is shown lower left. The badge is magnified on the right side of the image.
