    My Luftwaffe 'Fliegerhaube' collection.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...5-08-02002.jpg

Just a small collection but I've got a few other items...

Where does our hobby end? Does anyone reach a certain point and say 'that's it finished'?

      Nice collection

I have often toyed with collecting these myself, as some prices seemed reasonable, but I have never taken the plunge. For the un-informed (like me) could you tell us which helmet is which and which one is the rarest and hardest to find?

I think Mat has got it sussed

      Cheers, Ade.

I have one myself (winter) and have considered adding more but they can be hard to find for a reasonable price.

Those without the earphone/throat mikes often appear on Ebay so I would place these 1st in order of easiest to find (and obviously cheapest). I would say the winter version is the next easiest to find. I rarely see the net or summer examples.

The flight helmets that are normally encountered are the -101 series. The LKpS-101 is the summer weight one with tan salt and pepper type cotton material, two throat mikes, and leather earcups. The LKpW-101 is the brown leather version with the same equipment and the LKpN-101 is the net-top version as favored by fighter pilots. The hard to come by versions are the LKpS-100 summer version, with two throat mikes but Bakelite earcups, LKpW-100 winter version (otherwise same as the LKpS-100), LKpS-64 summer version with Bakelite earcups and single throat mike, LKpW-64 is the same except it's all leather, LKpS-53 summer version with round, bulbous leather earcups and single throat mike, and the LKpW-53 is the same yet it's the all leather winter version.

Good reply Gene..beat me to it !!

Today I received my copy of Mick J Prodger's book Luftwaffe vs RAF 'Flying Clothing of the Air War 139-45' reference book. I suspect that I will be offline for some time digesting the contents....

At least with LW items there doesn't seem to be a thriving repro market. But I know that Jos has his genuine doubts about LW goggles ...

I expect to finish my collection in 2096.

For some reason I don't favour Display Heads etc but rather let the items speak for themselves.

Well, only speaking about the last 2 years I've found out that many flight items are being faked and more to come..

To name a few items :
                N&G goggles,rubber goggles,electric gloves,leather gloves,the Summer flight jackets & matching flight trousers,the leather fighterpilot jackets,the white pilot jackets,paint bags,kapok swimmingvests,flightwatches,cameras,gravity knifes,flare belts,even the aluminum flares................,etc....
                and this is only flightstuff...

I'm now waiting for the first O2 masks to come...,they'll come,it's only a matter of time IMO..

                Jos.

I've asked pics,a guy, somewhere in the orient makes them..
Unfortunately he didn't mail me back..
Concerning the flightboots..,they were already made in the 70's..
Now to find someone who has this stuff in the collection..

                      Jos.

I know there's a Japanese guy making repro Japanese Army and Navy life vets, never heard of LW ones being made; I guess I shouldn't be surprised!

                          Hi Gene

I bought these boots from Manion's in the pre-internet days but I did take some photos before I returned them in that narrow window of time available to ensure I got a refund (which I did, no questions asked ... problem was it cost me > $AUD300 in their fees and returned postage / insurance ... a big, heavy package!!!). Give me a bit of time and I'll dig out the photos and scan them for you.

                          Best wishes
                          Paul

                            Hi Viscount,

Good looking collection you have started there.
                            Congrats......

Nice looking Luger holster and the leather flying jacket looks great.

I don't think there is any such thing as a complete collection in this field, there is always something else to find..........

                            Steve.

                              Thanks Steve for your comments

I have met Steve a number of times and he has a fantastic collection (especially Lugers !!).

I am a new guy to collecting and started about 2 years ago and as I said in my first post there seems no end to the bug !

May I add a few pictures of my Flugbuch to this thread. It has pictures of the pilots in his Gruppe but I have not identified the JG.

The Flugbuch details his training and first flight in a Me 109 (interesting comments in the the book!). He progresses to flying other aircraft as well but stays with the Me 109. Of interest there are a number of four leafed clovers pressed between the pages for good luck.

The pilot is Hans Lechner and the Flugbuch commences on 4.10.40 and ends on 31.12.43

Any help would be greatly appreciated in further identification.
