    KM collection display

Just got this buckle and eagle for rounding out the decorative side of my Kriegsmarine medal collection, of particular note my minesweepers, as I only need to get the "L/18" and "26" to complete the marked collection. Everything else that I know of is there including some recently acquired dupes which I couldn't resist. I'm still working on the unmarked minesweepers of which about 5 are represented. 2 fantasy/fakes/repros are also represented.....and a third (Schwerin) on its way.

At the bottom I have a High Seas and 3 destroyers. Perhaps next in the KM collection lineup. Feel free to ask questions.

Good grief Tony !!! Thats what I call focused collecting........I mean to myself, but just don't have the discipline !

I'd say by the looks 90% plus of you badges there also are in very good condition.

I've a question on one of the unmarked examples, I''l just be two min's and get a picture for you of one of mine. I was wondering with all you maker marked examples, if there was any badge that in your opinion is close to the unmarked version; hence a possible atributed maker perhaps ?

Just a shot in the dark, but I seen in person several of the best European collections on this froum and to my knowledge no one has yet completed a 'set' of the mnesweepers.

Perhaps one of the more common unmarked examples, and normally found in a fair condition.

Thank you for the kind words folks. It's not an 'old' collection. I'ld say no more than 5 months old. Of course to get it this far I've had to pay a premium and though the quality looks good in fact some are not. I've had to take what I could get. Some like the L/11 are minty but the LM are poor. The RK are middle of the road. The tombak Schwerin is good but the zinc is crap. Like I said I got what I could get. The collection would have to go thru upgrades to improve. Some things I just took whatever came my way and I grabbed with a SMILE as condition was not a concern...examples would be the Beco and the L/53 and the Assmann. Interesting, this last one. They sound common but you just don't see them for sale. Good thing is that when you least expect it someone calls you up and offers you a badge you don't have or need to upgrade. Or as recently is happening I'm getting dupes but are actually slightly different. Just picked up a 2nd L/11 within a week of each other but the makermaker is slightly smaller than the other. One L/53 has a secondary mark of a stamped "7". And, I just picked up a second Beco with the maker mark in a different position.

As for a 'complete set'...well. Once I can get my hands on those elusive L/18 and 26...THEN I'll be in business. And who knows what is lurking in the bushes.

I look forward to your pictures. I'm finding the unmarked to be a lot of fun in identifying and coming up with my own nomenclature and identification scheme.

              ms.unmarked[horizontal pin] Deumer

@Marcus: not by any comparison but by the word on other threads out there... those unmarked horizontal minesweepers have been attributed to Deumer.
              Here's an excellent thread:

              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...er+minesweeper

I've seen 2 major variations. The 'steel' version were the hook, pin, and hinge have a stainless steel LOOK (like yours). And also, another variation with a 'brass' LOOKING set. I also did see an anomaly for sale on ThirdReichMedals.com a few months back where the whole reverse (not just the hook, pin, hinge) was brass looking. Should have picked it up but, when I went to do so, it was too late.

Hope that helps. I've pictures of the different types and detailed shots of mine if it helps, which I can send to you.

Also, your cloth example looks nice but regretably I don't know much about them and I don't have one. Hopefully, I'll get one, when the opportunity arises.

Thank you for your time on this Tony, and only five months woth !! I have every faith in you I think to complete your quest......it's outstanding as it is ! Please do keep this thread up dated, and I'll keep an eye out certainly.

A Deumer, and even variations in these......I've been spending to much time on the packets and case forum

Incidently, I know of two genuine packets with the designation on them for the minesweeper, and of course the lowely cellophane packet. Interestingly I was talking to Gordon Williamson about marine boxes, and the Blockade case was aslo used (With award and stickpin in the wide version case....and the smaller more square one too, which you see every once in a blue moon with a HSF and BB)

But thats just by the by really.

The cloth example, I got from the e stand......for a total sum of 40 GBP !! Weitz has one on his site right now (two days ago I should say) for 300 euro

Your collection is more than a credit to you, and you'll be an aid in determintation and deliberation on forum with all these and subsequent others.

                I'm truely impressed.

I'll send yopu a pm with my e mail if it's not to much bother to send any pic's.

Very nice! I know who should be contributing on the next big minesweeper badge book!

Outstanding collection of KM badges! So far, my KM badges number an unmarked zinc minesweeper, U-boat, and a French Auxillary Cruiser badge, but by far, the Navy badges are my favorite out of the German war badges.

Speaking about minesweeper badges, Marcus' cloth version is the first that I have seen. How common are these?

                            cloth minesweeper

@Roy: Cloth versions of the ms badges are rarely seen but you do see them. Right now I believe a dealer has one for sale.

@Peter: received your pm. I'm on vacation and when I return I'll try to post a photo of the reverse or a list of the makers of each badge.
