Hi Nanook, Nice collection of modern and old uniforms Mate are they your'e old service uniforms? I was ex-Army back in the 70's/80's.

Anyway don't worry about that sly remark, the main point is the uniforms, and equipment! With mannequins and obtain really good ones in Australia is hard, I know as I have 12 full mannequins and the first one I paid over $300.00 and these mannequins were made in China! Then the best thing was when Dan46 started to sell on E-Stand these rubber heads, and from their I went with headless mannequins, I have now just one mannequin with a head that really does not suit my SS Pea Dot setup, infact I will be posting it up here shortly as I just received my Pea Dot trousers so you will see it, but I am getting another rubber head from Dan and I will then proceed to cut the old one off

Hi Lou, yes it is my old service uniform, I was navy for 26 years. I've got a pretty big collection of various uniforms and equipment unfortunately with very little space or mannequins to put them on at the moment. I actually prefer just torsos so the focus is on the equipment but they don't allow for wearing two boots at the same time. I was road testing this full mannequin for a full Heer M43 uniform I'm putting together, that's why the DPNU unform is wearing 1943 German ankle boots.

          Jamie.

I was thinking the same thing.

@ mads - It's even worse to post rude comments than to use a less than ideal mannequin. Kind of like spitting on fellow WAF members.

I agree and most collectors would rather spend the $350-500 that a decent maniquinn costs on another tunic, field gear or somthing else for the collection.

I´m one of those.....although I must admit I always wanted to go for the most neutral display manikin so it wouldnt distract from the uniform or display in question......

The mannequin I used was a plastic $150 one I bought from eBay. I don't intend to pay more than that because as previously mentioned, that $300 - $500 can be used to add more to my collection. I can understand paying a lot more for one to go on public display or for those not trying to renovate a house like I am, but for my private use it does the trick. Unfortunately, it's head is about a 57-58 and the Naval white service cap I own is a 56 but the WH helmet have planned for it fits perfectly.

                      Which Mannequin to use?

...It is the eternal dilemma of the collector but even if the mannequin is "only" the support of our "dear" uniform, it's him who makes all the difference at the end.
The main problem is the availability of mannequins on the market. The "nice" brand reference mannequins (Hindsgaul, Nissen, Rootstein, Jung ...) which have the main advantage to have right poses and expressive realistic faces particularly suitable for militaria are vintage/used mannequins, hard to find and always expensive (250 to 500 €)
If your budget does not go beyond $200 to 200€ (which is the major part of collectors) everything you can find on the market is a very poor design. Manufacturing quality (resin or plastic) often makes the difference between brands and cheap mannequins but it is mainly the design that gives to the the brands the desired final look... However, originally designed for fashion store they are not perfect, often too large they need to be adapted for militaria display (cuted feet, painted faces etc...)
Availability and low price but with right size and appearance suitable for militaria collections...there's a niche there to exploit for a brand new...I'm working on it!

                      Best to All

                        Mannequins

Yes,decent mannequins are always a problem.China made ones are invariably of poor quality.Do a bit of hunting,I'm sure Newcastle is hard hit at the moment and a lot of businesses are closing down,go into retail shops where you see closing sales etc,and hit them up.The mannequin with the 2/6th Ind Coy uniform was from a bridal store which cost me $100. Use your old workmates for networking-you would be surprised at some of the places you can find mannequins tucked away in Defence and the standard currency of beer works wonders. The other mannequin (plus another) I got from the O.C. of NZ PTS, I just picked an oppurtune moment (when he was drinking) and asked for them.
