Hi,
Its the 1897 jubilee medal, bar belonged to Lt Col A.B. Reynolds, CO of the 12th lancers.
Here a jump to the left, Army tunic from the CO of the fusilier Regt GD, helmet from a Major in the Div. Hoch und Deutschmeister..

Here is Wifeys Grandfather awards and Jacket, the white hat belonged to the prinz von Hohenzollern Emden, was shuffled out of the service by hitler, and as a result had no real WW2 service, BUT was an officer on the WW1 Emden (ring any bells amongst our Aussie friends ?)

I was just wondering as on a photo of my Grandad he is wearing a similar ribbon on his ribbon bar in second or third place. I don't think he got the MC, and it cant be that medal as its to early (He was in WW2).
Again very nice collection, I wish I had one like that!

sure does, the Australian Navies only ship to ship engagement during WW1.

Sydney's 6" guns versus Emden's 4.1 guns or put a better way 100lbs versus 38lbs respectively as that was the weight of the shells.

This engagement cost the Sydney 4 dead and 12 wounded whilst the Emden suffered 134 dead 65 wounded. Strange to have such a high death ratio compared to wounded on the Emden

Although the Emden suffer major hits she ran aground and was later scuttled by her crew.

Picture #2 next to the Jap flag. What's that gong in the frame? Can't make it out. It looks like an 1887 Jubilee (in silver) with the scarce 1897 clasp. Non?
