Pt Boat Group

HELLO GANG,

I need a little help. A close friend of mine's father was on a PT boat in WWII. He has the flag off the boat. Along with his medals, etc. He has decided to have me build a pair of shadow boxes to display them. I haven't seen the flag in several years but I think it is wool and about 15"x20". My question is what Material should he use to tack the flag to? My concern is the material altering the flag over time.

Any advice appreciated. I'll post pics when i get them done.

Hello Mat,

I do a little framing as another hobby. Any material such as mat board that is acid-free will assure no damage to the flag. Also use acid-free tape to line the frame channels & make sure the flag does not touch any material that is not acid-free. And of course keep the display away from sunlight as it will degrade & yellow the flag material.
