    A few Soldbücher und Wehrpäßen!

I don't own such a device as a digital camera.....however I do have a scanner and here are three photos I took in 1996 of some of my books......if nothing else it shows the different colours of Sb or Wp that can be encountered.....
in 1996 this amount was easy to store..............I now need a bigger house!!!!!!!!!!

More to follow when I either buy or "borrow" a camera!

    /Ian

    Very impressive!

The red stripe denoted a soldier who had died?

Thats corrects...in some cases two red diagonals as an "X" or a single red diagonal stripe....On the middle photo bottom left there appears a red cross but in thje form of a crucifix ....this guy died as a result of wounds in a reserve hospital.
Also in the top photo of Wehrpäßen there are two SS ones that have a red "V"..both were Vermißt or missing. (I can see them as I know they are there but might be a little diffucult to make out!!!).

One thing to note though...this is not the case for all those KiA or MiA!!!!! Sometimes a notation made in the document or sometimes nothing at all and you are left guessing his fate...especially if he is not listed on the Vermißten und Toten site........

              Superb.

              Hi Ian,
very nice selection indeed, and no doubt MUCH enlarged since those shots were taken.
How do you regulate your collecting themes?
Do you collect them via branch of service (infantry,Panzer etc), theaters of war, awards granted, or do you just buy interesting books that catch your eye?

              looking forward to seeing more,

              All the best,

              Patrick.

                Document storage?

                Ian,

Quite apart from the actual space needed, how do store your Wehrpässe?

Plastic sleeves in ring binders, acid-free archival storage boxes, shoe boxes?

For the time being, I put document groups in acid-free photo sleeves and keep them in shoe boxes. I find shoe boxes (cheap supply via the wife) are easy to stack in bookshelves, good for quick searches and easy to disguise the collection size from the wife ("But you've already got one those, haven't you? What do you want another one for? Can't you sell some of the old ones?" etc., etc.)

I am sure old paper suffers from poor storage methods and someone must have found a "safe" way of keeping them in the long term.

                Your thoughts?

                ttfn,

                David

I do prefer the holders to have at least EK I, preferably a photo (for Soldbuch but it depends if he was KiA prior to photo introduction, Autumn/Winter 1943!)...I do like those to Panzer Divisions, Infantry Divisios I prefer to have a Nahkampfspange etc. etc.
Basically if I like it I will buy it or attempt to if it is an auction!!!

I like any arm i.e. SS, Heer, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine.

I also prefer the Soldbuch to the Wehrpaß, however a well filled in Wehrpaß is nice to have!

Regarding storage, the following link is another thread from last year showing how most are stored.........

Ian a very nice collection. It must be interesting to research the persons units and where he fought etc. I know after getting my 2 Wehrpasses awhile back!

                      Ian:
Most excellent! I like seeing them in formation - appeals to my military sense. I would be especially interested in any new Panzer books you have - to see more detail
