Ernst Vollbehr - war painter in both world wars

I posted this bar before, but I think it fits in that forum.

Ernst Vollbehr did his work mostly in the frontline, thats why he got his WW1 awards in the fighters version.
His Hohenzollern knight is a silver-gilt one, only 15 times awarded in WW1 without swords.

because of his dangerous work in the trenches he "invented" a steel-helmet in 1915! One year before the normal troops got the M1916 steel helmet.

He had a good relation with the Grandduke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Before WW1 they visited together the African continent.

At that picture, made by Arnold Busch 1916 he is wearing a ribbon bar. Unfortunately "only" his medal bar survived.

painting in the frontlines is not something you see everyday.

Can you tell more about, unit, what he did as a soldier?

Also, is there a market for his paintings?

I dont know if he ever was a soldier. In WW1 he was the official war painter of the Army Group of the German Crown Prince.

Some of his pictures are still around and make prices from some hundred Euros. I think in the last Kube auction were also 2 or 3.
