Ammo cans for a future display

    Evening All,

I am always thinking ahead to the next project and in my extension, I want to add 3 small diorama's. I have a rough idea of what they are going to consist of, so I have been collecting stuff. One item that I am going to need a few of are ammo cans. Buying ones with original slightly damaged paint is going to be expensive and I don't want a lot of rust because I want it to look realistic, of it's day. Some years ago I bought several repainted cans, all in that horrible Czech green paint, they were cheap, about £8 each so I didn't really mind. They all are or have been, marked but most have been de-nazified, some still have the year etc.

I started to paint strip them but I had other more pressing projects so they were dumped in a corner and moved numerous times around the workshop. Then last week I got the urge and after changing the media in my shot blast, I tried it on one of the cans, of course once I had started I had to finish. The results are shown below. I know there are some who will say no no no, not good but they are original items, albeit repainted and to my mind they look better in a display than ones covered in rust.

I have to agree also, very nicely done. I have repainted many over the years, they all had that awful green Yugo paint on them.
