Falling in love at the Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt

    Hello everyone,

Martin and Marlies (Marie-Luise) seem to got to know each other in the Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt in 1942 and married shortly after. Marlies served as a secretary there and SS-Untersturmführer Martin Christoph with Stab/Reichsführer-SS.

Martin Christoph was heavily injured at the Eastern Front on 6.9.41 after overran by a Russian "Kampfwagen" (as he states in his CV) and was taken back from the front to serve in Germany. He had to go to Junkerschule Bad Tölz in November 1943 and was planned to serve as a instructor after that. However, they decided he is fit enough for combat again so they sent him to Kurland with SS-Panzer-Brigade Groß. His tank was badly hit on 8.8.1944 and a shell splinter insured Christoph´s head. He managed to get on one of the last ships which left Kurland in 1944. Back home in Germany they sent him to SS-Panzer Ausb.u.Ers.Rgt which was in Böhmen at this time.

Christoph survived the war and stayed together with his wife.

A story I just have to share!

Here is a picture of the entire grouping which turned up in a small antique shop just around the corner. SS-Untersturmführer Martin Christoph was from my area by the way.

I won´t bother you with all of the 300 pictures but these might be worth posting for reference, too.

Oh, and that is my favorite photo of this grouping. Looks like someone asked the wrong question to the Spieß!

    Enjoy!

I have to agree that this is a very nice group! I very much like the fact he was in Pz. Group Gross, are there any other photos of him during this time? I would love to see some and thanks for posting.

I like the birth cert. Does it fit inside the cask or is it too big?

Any photos of the casket in the period out of the 300 pics, or at the wedding etc?

If yes to the above, then prices of that box will go up up up ...

Ah, love blossoms for a young couple at the SS Race and Settlement Main Office. Will a transfer to the Eastern Front tear them apart? A new series on the Lifetime channel....

Nice grouping Klaus. On another thread someone stated that what you mostly find in Germany these days is documents and photos, not uniforms and daggers. And what you've got here is exactly that.

Have you tried to track down whoever sold it to the antique shop to see if there is anything else?

Yes, those with the eyes 'to see' so to speak, will note the birth certificate.
                    Very nice.

I know where you going with that question:

Too big...you can see the sizes in one of the grouping photos. So that wont be a possible theory in this instance for usage.

A shame really that this group was presented in such a way as to paint the scene of the partnership between the SS man, his lover and finally his wife. A true grouping in every sense.
However now this group has been be split up in to lots in the latest auction. Don't get me wrong I'm not always a purist that insists things are never split, but in this case I would say this should be kept together, really sad.

Well said. I quite agree. Split up for purely financial reasons. Such a shame.
