Hi all:

Just wanted to post one of my latest scores. Until now Id never use the words "score" & "repro" in the same sentence but heres a BEAUTIFUL repro of the tapestry that allegedly was "liberated" from the Darre headquarters/office by a GI and now resides in a private collection here in the states. Does anyone have a color photo of the original & who may own the original piece? All ive ever seen is the thumbnail size B&W photos but what I can see its dead on. I can just imagine what this thing cost to reproduce!!!!! The bullion work is INCREDIBLE! Also, Im sure this was a one time deal,any idea where it was made & who owned it before? Something this unique has to know who owned it last.

Interesting, and something I know nothing about too.
Noticed elsewhere online... "the sacred Irminsul, or Life
Tree of the ancient Saxon saga and religion. This was
the symbol that was hewn from Wotan's ash tree that
actually stood at the top of the Externsteine, or Rocks of
the Sun at Detmold and adjacent to the Teutoberg Forest
of Hermann fame. The Irminsul was destroyed by Karl der
Grosse as the first act of the Diet of Worms in the 8th century,
thus setting off a fierce and long war between the Saxons
and Franks." Teutoberg Forest, site of the 9 AD defeat
of the Imperial Roman 17, 18, and 19th Legions.

Interesting - never thought I would see this piece as a repro!

The picture with the original tapestry is not any RuSHA building, though.

It is the ground floor of the Ahnenerbe headquarter in Berlin-Dahlem.

The original tapestry was designed by Karl Diebitsch and Elfriede Seifert.

It has several tell-tell differences from the original as it is. Most notably the text, background spacing and loops for hanging. I sent you a link for the colour-photo I uploaded for you.

Here's the color photo sent to me by Minnesinger...so, part of the mystery is solved. Whoever had this made was following the colorscheme of the original.Im thinking this is an old instamatic or 110 photo & the film was notorious for turning everything orange over time so Im thinking the trim is actually black like the copy, though the pic makes appear brown. The same auction I got the banner from also had several DE standards & other very high end repros. (sold as such) wish Id saved more pics. The banners themselves were VERY convincing but the pole tops etc ,though detailed, lacked the quality of the originals.......
