I am a collector of documents uboot and especially soldbuch uboot

I have just received a soldbuch of the uboot U48 with from very numbers documents and among others

The cloth U-Bootkriegsabzeichen and ubootfrontspange

I am not at all a specialiste of medailles and badges

Can give me myself your opinions and, what can etre the value of the cloth badge is it rare?

Very nice original pieces!

Valuewise I would say around 700-800 euro on the clasp, the cloth uboat is harder to say as there's only a small market for it. But for me the fact that it's actualy worn makes it a lot nicer.

I agree with Giel about the spange and cloth badge even though the pictures are not the best.
The cloth badges were not awarded at the same time with the metal badges. These were private purchase items as far as I am concerned. There are many variations of the cloth badge out there, some are accepted as original period pieces and some are not. The one you show is a type that is generally accepted as a period piece. As far as the value I really cannot say as I am not really a collector of cloth war badges so do not pay attention to their values.
I hope that your asking about the values of the badges does not mean that you are breaking up the group. It would be a shame to do that.

This set(group) with the documents of U48 is a part of the history and on no
account must be separately sold

I just followed your link to the documents forum. That is a wonderful set of documents and items from this submariner. He certainly had a busy career. I am glad to hear it will all stay together. Congratulations on obtaining this for your collection.

You really need to find a decent camera and scanner for this very nice group.

To me, the cloth U-boat patch is very, maybe extremely, rare in the sense it has provenance if it came with the rest of the group.

These patches come in a number of different styles since there were many makers of them, but this one, coming from a U-boat sailor, makes it stand out. In fact, I am not aware from this or other forums, a single example where it is directly attributed to a man.

Naturally, the same applies to the clasp, but we do see clasps from groups. Unlike others, I also put a value added amount on the items since they are attributed but with this, the buyer must make the call.

The old saying here that provenance does not add much to valuation is usually true I guess, meaning the value of a group is the sum of each artifact individually. I personally do not agree, but that is my opinion--everybody has one on this subject.

How much more? I do not know, maybe 15%, could be more depending on who the group was awarded to.

However, if you have docs plus this clasp plus the cloth patch, you have a very valuable collection. How easy it would be to sell all together, no way of knowing right now.

I value the cloth U-boat patch with provenance at around $300-400--wtihout, maybe $250-300. I do not have my notes with me right now, but will tomorrow and will be able to give you better estimates on what I have seen in the past on these.
