Hi guys,
I tend to agree that the IAB is a fake. Although we don't see many of them at all, and there are indeed other badges that are seemingly similar crappy quality that are considered possibly wartime (i.e., some of the the flatback badges). The reverse hardware and finish look believable so that has always made me wonder about them, but agree that we are likely looking at a postwar creation.
Is there any history or provenance with these badges James?
Thanks

If I remember correctly, these IABs first surfaced around 2000-2001. I remember Detlev Niemann having a bunch of them that he was selling in the supposed original glassine/cellophane packets for €70 each. A short time later I remember them being called out as fakes, both the badge and the packets. Niemann concurred and quit selling them, or so I was told.

These still show up on Dealers sites from time to time. The usually never have any finish, obverse details are always smashed (giving the "melting" look) and the base material is flat grey in color. Here is another I saved.

No! Sorry I do not. But if you go to this thread, you will see the the same badge & packet posted there.

Allan P posted the badge on page 1, post number 8. Then on page 2, posts number 28 & 29 he shows the front and reverse of the badge from the packet. Frank H also shows another one of these fakes on page 2, posts number 16 & 17.
