Great GROUP German Cross Winner 21.I.D. Tunic Visor Cap Soldbuch Documents...and more

Hi There. Its been a long time that I didn't present you one more Group of my Collection. Like all those I have shown before, I had the unique Opportunity to met the Vet himself and held a long speech with him. He was not healthy, sick and tired, but I saw in his Eyes the Plaeasure he had to discuss with a younger Guy about his rich Experience of the War... Unfortunately, this "Way of Collecting", for me the most pleasant one, already belongs to the Past, as most of the Vets have now passed away. Shortly after we met (2003), he passed away, and his Widow wrote me some Weeks later to know if I could be interested to get all his military Souvenirs. Of course "at no charge".... only the wish I could come back in their Home to avoid Sending and so on....
    H. received the German Cross on March, 30th 1945, as a Lieutenant in the II./G.R.24 (21.I.D.). Like all very late German in Cross Bearers, he never get any Awards Documents and never wore the Award itself.
Nevertheless, I was very proud to obtain his Tunic (Italian gabardine ?? I'am not a Specialist from Tbunics), Visor Caps, all awards documents, Soldbuch (Zweitschrift from Dec.44), dog-Tag, Front-Newspapers, several hundred Photographs, most of them in Albums, other Awars (among them 2 Combat Clasps Silber, and a Gausieger 1939"....
The Tunic and the Visor, with a very nice "Sattelform", can both easily being recognized one on Portrait shown thereafter...
I especially love the 21.I.D. (I have other DK-Groups) because of the high Number of high-decorated Soldiers. Don't forget most of the Division Guys were from Ostpreussen, most of the Survivors lost everything they had, as Ostpreussen went to Poland, and they had to "re-start" a new Existence. 1945 was ther "ground Zero"....
I hope you will enjoy the Group, your Questions are welcome and I will do my best to answer you as good as I can !! <p><img src="http://cdn01.trixum.de/upload2/1/R/1RL3w6eNukUQ134116328189P1683.jpg"></p> <p><img src="http://cdn01.trixum.de/upload2/g/G/gGIxlBkFAQws134116333505P1683.jpg"></p>

It says a lot about you that veterans and their families give you this type of material for free and you treasure it. Integrity and genuine interest in these old guys' stories is hard to fake and you were rewarded with the greatest gifts they could give to you – their memories, both physical and mental. Good work.

Did his wife also give you his Wolchowstock (Volkhov stick)?

Thank you Jeff, Rob, Jason, Naxos, David, Jacques an d Hank. It is always a true Pleasure to know that Your Groups are appreciated by experienced Collectors as you are Guys...
Rob...... Your long Mail will be answered, I have print it and the Paper is now "yellow".... but there are so many things to write, and writing English takes so much time.... Just say here you are one of the more awesome Collector I know.... thanks for your Kindness and Patience !!
Jason, no, unfortunately... no Wolchow Stock in the Group... The only one I get from a Family was the one from the Ia of the 121.I.D...... well.....I trade it with my best Friend who was crazy about it. At least I know it is in good Hands there too....

Judging by his Nahkampftage, he may have been wounded in late 1941 because it looks like he saw no action – or at least very little – in 1942 and 1943. That's a pity (for me as an historian) because I am really interested in the actions of 21.Inf.Div. in the Kirischi bridgehead 1941-42.

What a fantastic grouping, with first-hand accounts told in person. That has a completely different meaning to the custodian.

I am interested in all things Heeresgruppe Nord (just as I could offer something to Jason on Cholm), so this one has more impact than earlier collections of yours.

                            Wolchow!

In my color slide collection of a Leutnant Eugen Kastner from 212.Infanterie-Divison http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&postcount=718 / http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...6&postcount=28, a friend Leutnant smokes a pipe http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&postcount=263. Though he's not your man (from 21.I.D.), I immediately remembered his face with glasses... Stays cheerful despite of the toughest condition!
