    Waffenrock - Bender Publishing

Ooo, I've just received a flyer from Bender Publishing that leads with a new release for August 10th 'Waffenrock'. Large format, slip-cased, 592 pages, 87 Waffenrocks in full colour, 1,140 photos. On the face of it $119.95's worth of sumptuous loveliness.

I can't find any info on their website, or indeed a preorder. Does anyone have any background info on this one?

    Cheers,
    David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

I have also just received this flyer today, it looks like a nice book. There is an order form on the back page which gives the e-mail address for ordering & a supplement which offers a 10% prepublication discount. It seems like the book has not been printed yet.

        Neil Stewart

I had the pleasure of meeting Neil Stewart, one of the authors of this book, a couple of years ago at SOS and spending time in his hotel room looking at some of the photos he plans on using in the book.

The photos are some of the best I have ever seen of militaria. Neil was meticulous in his work and very enthusiastic about collecting all the information he could.

I am sure this will be one of the best books in our collecting world ever -- and no doubt, will cause a rise in the prices of these beautiful uniforms which, in my view, are very underpriced right now.

Waffenrock: Parade Uniforms of the German Army

          Hello all,

Thank you Mike for your good words!

The books are in fact printed, somewhere at sea enroute to the US as we speak. Both Tim Curley and I, as authors, received our advance copies this week. I finished reading mine--cover to cover--yesterday. The "in the flesh" book is stunning in its beauty.

Tim and I set out to establish a new standard for these books and our goal has been achieved. 100% color, all 592 pages. Every Waffenfarbe represented, officer, NCO and enlisted examples--plus great detail photos--it is all there. And despite the destruction of the Army Clothing office records: we have official design documants including drawings and tailor instructions.

Many of these items were loaned to us by fellow Forum members.

The books are expected to arrive in San Jose soon. This is a book for anyone who likes uniforms.

          Thanks,

Neil Stewart, coauthor Waffenrock: Parade Uniforms of the German Army

              Fran,

Thank you also for your support and contributions. It has taken 3 years to assemble thie book. It addresses a subject not significantly covered by any other book and does a thorough job--showing the ordinary as well as the exotic.

Anyone having specific questions can post here, or contact Tim Curley or I via PM or e-mail. Roger Bender has a great deal going for those willing to wait a few days. Both Tim and I will be taking books to the MAX and SOS shows, plus other shows as we can.

              Thanks again,

              Neil

I have always found these uniforms to be so appealing reguardless of the branch. They are just about works of art if such a thing can be found in a uniform. I've don't own one yet but plan to at sometime in the future when the right one comes along. I plan to purchase the book in the meantime however.

                    Neil and Tim,

I congratulate both of you for undertaking such a monumental task and producing what will be the new standard in militaria collecting literature.

I can't wait for my copy...

Neil, looks like a great reference! What's next - perhaps something Luftwaffe? .

                          Scott,

Are you volunteering your uniforms for the cause? I'd love to do both the Luftwaffe and KM. But Tim and I are Army specialists . . . we would need a lot of help!

Hope you like the book--it is a beauty!
