Whats with this Spike Lee drama? Why does everyone dislike him?

I'm fairly sure that it's his outspoken manner and political beliefs. Some people's tastes don't lean toward his films, but his filmmaking talent is certainly not suspect. His films are always extremely well-crafted, with interesting subject matter.
I worked with him, years ago, on an episode of a childrens TV show I used to do, called "Ghostwriter", and he is supremely well versed in the mechanics and history of film. I don't think there's a craft on any set, whose job he couldn't do.
He was also very cordial and extremely helpful to the young talent on the show.

If he could just keep his sometimes foolish opinions to himself and just stick to what he does best, I believe he'd have a bigger fanbase.

Spike Lee is very adept at finding racism in every aspect of life. While I do not agree with his view of the world, his talent is great and his films have had an impact on many.

He is also a social commentator, on the status of the African American community. if you think he only sees the world from one perspective, please take the time to watch "Minstrel Show", a film about the sad behaviour of many of his African American contemporaries.

Spike Lee is a true genuis in film making, whether you agree with his postulations, or not.
