6 Piece Medal Bar with EK2 Spange

    Hello all,

I recently picked up this interesting medal bar. It appears the WWI and WWII combatant participated in both WWI and WWII and received the Iron Cross 2nd class in both wars. The ribbon bar came w/ the medal bar. I assume that perhaps he came home, updated his medal bar but not his ribbon bar? Perhaps he was out of service by then?

WWI EK2 with WWII EK2 Clasp
    War Merit Cross with Swords
    Hindenburg Cross
    Eastern Front Medal
    Hungarian WWI Commemorative Medal
    Bulgarian WWI Commemorative Medal

I am interested in your feedback.. Thank you very much in advance.

    Scott

You would think he would have an LS medal.

              I've seen this spange discussed.

I do not remember if it was good or bad.

Looked for the thread but could not find it.

Post it in the crosses section. Someone is bound to know.

                Hi Scott,

Looks like a nice medal bar and ribbon bar. Very nice construction on both. Unusual in that the medal bar appears to have been upgraded during WW2. Older guys like this WW1 veteran were not in the habit of having their medals re-mounted in time of war. Ribbon bars were always being upgraded, but medal bars not so much as they were for wear in peacetime. In this particular case, though, you have a medal bar that was upgraded and a ribbon bar that was not. Just the opposite from what would normally be expected. If both these items were from the same recipient, then apparently the ribbon bar is an earlier one of his that never got upgraded. The incorrect placement of the East Medal does not concern me, although I am puzzled by the EK2 Spange. I don't ever recall seeing that particular design before. Like Wayne, I also looked through old discussion threads in hope of finding a similar example without success. As Wayne suggests, you should post some pictures of the Spange in the Crosses of the Wehrmacht forum.

                Best regards,
                Tom

Dont know enough to comment on the bar but, to the best of my knowledge, this particular EK II spange design is good/original and has been attributed to Meybauer
