wartime Gebirgsjaeger with sleeve cuff rank insignia?

This photo is part of a larger grouping of late war Gebirgsjaeger photographs that I have got. Could you someone explain the rank insignia on the cuff of this man please? Cheers, Torsten.

    Hi Torsten,

this is not a late war but a Reichswehr (Weimar) period picture. Also note the trousers being worn.

I agree its an early picture of Reichsheer-Wehrmacht transitional period.
The uniforms already have the WH breast eagle,
but the cuff insignia is still the old Reichsheer pattern shooting award / Marksman badge.
These were of course later replaced with the Wehrmacht pattern marksman lanyards.

btw the early Luftwaffe also used similar insignia in the late 30's.

The shooters aquilettes were introduced following an order dated 29th june, 1936. The breast eagle was introduced following an order dated 17th february, 1934.

This narrows the date to a couple of years.

ah, then this photo is the odd one out of the whole lot ... the others are all late war with two of them even being dated April 1945. Thanks for the clarification guys ... Cheers, Torsten.

            ...

One of my 1937 dated photos from Garmish-Partenkirchen with the same trousers.
