    Police green piped Bergmutze

    Hi Everyone,
I just received this green piped Police Bergmutze on approval and would like some opinions on it. The material is a bit more blue/ green than in the photos.
It passed the UV light test. It is very well constructed. The wooll feels right.
I have never had a police bergmutze so I don't know what to look for. Here is what I can tell you about it though. The front buttons appear to be brown bakelite. There is a stiffener attached inside the front of the cap to keep its peak. It feels to be made of cardboard and ribbed with stitching. The lining is rough rayon. All the stitching is untouched, nothing added or resewn.
Any help on this would be appreciated. I have about 10 pictures I will add to this thread. If you want specific ones please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Keith

Can you post a detailed close-up of the piping? I am a bit skeptical of this cap. The ebay listing was odd, calling it an M43 mountain cap. If it is a Bergmutze with piping, then it would have to be a very early cap, yet it has an edelweiss which were not approved for use until 1941 and a trapezoid insignia which were even later war. But the pale green of the piping reminds me of some used on a variety of fake police headgear that have come out of Germany in the last couple of years. Right now, I would pass on it.

                        Keith,

I agree with Joe. The piping looks distinctly odd from the photos and there are some inconsistencies in construction and parts as Joe noted. I have seen some very convincing aged fake soft police caps of late.

                          piping closeups

Here are some closeups of the piping with and without the flash. I put the cap next to my piped OS cap also. I also measured the visor and it is just over 2 1/4 inches in the center
                          Thanks for the help,

                              piping 3

The piping is a bit darker than shown in the first 2 pics.
