Another SS Helmet - M40 w/ Field Applied Decal - Opinions Please

Bought this also before going to Iraq. Now that I am back wanted to make sure it looks OK to you all. Based on what I learned here on the forum, this looks like Quist with field applied Pocher 1st type decal.

Please see my other thread on another helmet I got at the same time as this. See below:

    Thanks in advance.

Inside, you can see the original paint showing through the overcoat. Tough to make out the maker and numbers.

Tough to capture metallic background. Here is another shot.

Hopefully get some comments on the thread. Thanks for the PM's. The helmet looks like what I would expect for the field applied decals. However, there are no spacers used when the pins were pushed through. Was this common with reissues or something done by collectors when removing liners in the old days? The liner is 1943 dated.

              Jeff,

I would guess the liner was messed with postwar by the looks of the split pins.

hello jeff, the only thing worrying me would be suspicious of any decal scrached on the decal base, im not casting doubt of this helmet, but be aware of forgers doing this to disguise there ill trade. take care on your tour, kind regards phil.

                    Rolf,

Can you saying you couldn't replace the pins?

I don't like the looks of this decal at all. In my opinion it's a reproduction. That brown rust in the decal scratches looks convincing, but I think that can be faked with a little time and know-how. Just my opinion...

I meant the two spacers with the two holes in them? It seems like it would be tought to get them in there in the first place, let alone in the field where nobody probably cared too much.
