    Eastern Front medal

    Hello to everyone,

Here's an Eastern Front medal ; could you please let me know what you think ?

Are these much faked today, as most of the WWII german medals ? Or can we be more or less at ease with them ?

    Thanks !

Your example appears perfectly fine (original) and in great condition.

Yes these are faked, however the fakes tend to be rather crude. There is not as much incentive to fake these perfectly like the higher end stuff.

          Regards,
          Rob.

Not sure what the indentation is on top of the ring mount (the metal on top of the helmet that's drilled for the suspension ring), but this one looks good to me, too.

I'll post what I've seen of Ostmedaille fakes from home tonight; the ones I've seen were easy to tell.

            Best,
            Greg

PS - nice avatar; is that from "The Keep?"

This OST looks like a good Rudolf Berge to me

OST's like all TR items are faked, yes relatively speaking price wise they are "low end" items - but if you can make a fake for $1 and sell it for $30's plus - then the fakers will do it and do do it.

Thanks very much to all of you. That's very good news, as this particular medal always was my favourite one. About the rest (fakes), that's very logical, and no doubt that the repros get better day after day.

That's right Greg, and my pseudo too, of course. It nearly took me years to find the book from F. Paul Wilson in french, after having watch the movie many, many years ago (this film really deserves a modern remake !).

Yes, I would be curious to see some good reproductions of this award, thanks in advance if you can post one or two here.

                    Agreed, no doubt about that.

There is also more incentive in taking a few dollars in material and making say an SS LSA or an RK and making $500 - $5000+. You can make a great RK repro, tell people they are fake and sell them for $250 +.

Seems the Ost copies (at least those I've seen) are obvious and intended for reinactors/movies etc. They tend to be rather crude. If anyone has pics I'd like to see some good Ost repros to be aware of whats out there.

                    Rob.

Thanks again, here is a general view of it. It's a luck if fakes of this award are still easilly detectable today (I think we will soon see here at what point they are), but I also think it won't be the case for too long.

By the way, I took a look at this page :
                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/reserach_tools/ldo.htm
and it seems that the paper bag marked "Gablonz" (if original too) is right for this maker (Rudolf Berge) ???

Yours is indeed a nice original made my Rudolf Berge (mm39), but the packet does not match.

I saw several incredible collections of Ostmedaille here in the forum, so may I ask if someone could show a matching packet for a Rudolf Berge Ost (or a link to one that was already posted in the forum) ? I think I now need to start looking for one !
