Need help identifying this item--for maps??

any info on this item?? as it open up it has a plastic sheet or had a plastic sheet and a cloth of some sort that goes over one side.

any leads would be appreciated

Looks to be a German version of a style of private purchase military map case that was widely popular with British, French and US officers in WWI and beyond. Only minor details vary. My guess is early to mid 1930s but perhaps earlier
