Odd M38 Gas Mask - rare variant or something post-war?

    Hey guys...

    Thoughts on this?

Rings around the eye sockets are odd (never seen this type). Filter is blue with red stripe...has early Weimer stamp.

No codes on snout, and snout has different features than I normally see.

    Lenses are dated 1944.

    Straps are maybe post-war?

Rings to attach the straps to mask I have never seen this type before either.

    Hi Mike,

I can help with one of the questions.

"Filter is blue with red stripe...has early Weimer stamp"
The ring and the UB marking on the filter means it is for training purposes only.

In particular Tom's post from that thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...1&postcount=11

Not sure the of the value but pretty neat in my opinion.

      Thanks for the reply!

It would appear that this is maybe a complete training mask as well?

Of course a post war gm38 copy. I like the filter! Not often seen Bundesadler stamp (similar to the S-MASKE Reichswehr filter stamp) even though its not wartime.

So in summary this is a post war gas mask with a training filter?

It's an ASM 85132 made by the company MEDI, these were all made post-war. There are at least 6 variations of this mask with yours being the 5th variation. The masks were made from the 1950's up till the early 1960's.
