Esbit stove

Hi Guys

Please could you let me know what the current thinking is on this model of Esbit? I have done some research but there seems to be split opinions. It has some remains of camo paint on it.

Pre war made. It is stamped DRP ( Deutsches Reich Patent ). This stamp was not used after the war. It is also stamped made in Germany. After the war German made ithems was stamped either made in West Germany or made in DDR.

There is a packet of pre-1945 Esbit stove fuel tablets on Ebay. Stove was standard issue for Wehrmacht soldiers, each tablet burned about 12 minutes. US Sterno stoves are same principle, except each fuel can lasts about two hours. Perfect for cooking canned C-rations when I was in the mountains with SF unit during the early 1960's. We all carried one in our rucksacks.

Your stove is 100% postwar and the DRP marking was used after the war and West Germany was created in 1949. Postwar stoves also have the "teeth" that prewar and wartime stoves don't have.

100% correct. Belgian army used them till the 80's. Exactly the same than the one which starts this thread (Esbit, DRP, teeth, ...).

DRP markings well used till early 50thies if remember correctly. So DRP marking doesn't make it wartime or pre war.

Your Esbit is post war. DRP marking continued to exist few years after the end of the war. If you want to be sure to get a wartime Esbit, it must be marked "Erich Schumm Stuttgart" on the back. Until May 1943, factory is located to Stuttgart. After this date, factory moved to Murrhardt.
