    Heer Gas Mask Canister

    So a friend of mine just contacted me asking about a gas mask canister he found in his uncles garage. It's in beautiful condition, with a number on the outside as well as a Feldpost number and name on the inside. The feldpost number lead to Grenadier Reg 765 of the 242nd Inf Division. I was wondering if there is any way to learn more about the guy? My friend want to find the family and see if they want it, but I'm not sure if that's even possible.

      Nice thought, but not sure if contacting the families is always a good idea. It could be a good experience for both your friend and the family of the soldier, but on the other hand it may not. I think it all comes down to bringing back war time memories, for some German families, their war time experiences were not always pleasant ones and in those cases memories that some would rather forget and not think about. It would also depend if the soldier was KIA or POW.
